The ebay route would have been a good idea a week ago im thinking but now that I look at it I may get next to nothing for it due to the rescent price drop
It doesn't matter. You're going to spend $200 to replace it, no matter what you do. What would you rather have? A NEW xbox, or a refirb one (because more than likely, that's what they'll send). If you do sell it, whatever you make is just bonus and will help offset the cost of a new one. Besides, people on ebay are still paying more than $200 for the ps2, even after you can get it for the same price everywhere else. That's why it's best to list it as soon as possible, because the price cut this week is still a rumor. It's going to happen, no later then the 20th of this month, probably earlier now that sony's took effect today

Edit: You also might want to call microsoft again and ask what the repair charge will be AFTER the console's drop. Remember, it's still just a rumor at this point, so the repair folks wouldn't be taking the lower price into account. I'd bet they're not going to charge $200 to replace it after the console is retailing for that

It was just a suggestion!

He was promoting fraud.

Now I wish that the mods give vacations to those who post warez threads. Not people like gopunk but those who ask for help on where to search for software cracks, etc.

What's so shocking?

I was once banned for a week for joking around with "In before the lock."

Not to mention that this mod was at least nice enough to post the reason. Some just say, "Screw you, punk" and lock your account. :D

that is not shocking, it is well-known that posting in before the... will earn a ban... but this is different... the mods are acting as god, deciding what is right and wrong, moral or not, and doling out punishment for what they consider to be "Wrong" without any kind of warning, I've seen people like Red Dawn or Russ post some of the meanest personal insults you could think of and get away scott free

I am not defending the mods, but this is an oligarchy. When I read the first post, I kew someone would say something to that effect, but I never would have thought a vaction woulo be the result.

<--- watching what I say now

I think certain credit cards give you 1 yr. warranties on any product you purchased with the card. If you bought with a CC, perhaps you want to see if your card offers that protection.
Did you buy it with a Credit Card?

Most premium cards (Visa Gold, etc.) DOUBLE the manufacturer's warranty.

If you didn't use a credit card, let it be a lesson to you . . . j/k'ing :)

That's the worst feeling in the world..

I bought a sealed Xbox, and I returned a sealed Xbox. How is that wrong?
I could have returned my used Xbox and still not have been wrong, considering I had a receipt and it was within the return policy.
Wow...that's pretty bad

But the weird thing is...the guy who buys the returned/messed-up one will have it under warranty...Bad Xbox gets fixed...Microsoft loses whatever man-hours it takes to fix the Xbox...everyone's happy?

No...I wouldn't be happy because of the morality of the whole affair

First, check the CC it was purchased with. With any luck, the CC doubled the warrantee on the X-Box to 6 months and you can get a new one that way.

If that doesn't work, find out what the repair cost will be after the price drop. If they can't tell you, then eBay the system for parts and use the money to buy a new system or whatever.

Good luck to you.

this is hardly ethical, but you could do a switcheroo with Walmart. Buy a new one and put the old one in the box and return it.

:Q a week ban for that??

Week ban sounds reasonable.

I believe the banning was for suggesting and endorsing a criminal fraudulent action as a solution to warranty problem. Do you really think Anand wants AnandTech forums to have a reputation as where people suggest criminal actions to eachother? I don't think so.

While I agree its probably not a good idea to suggest immoral actions like this, he did mention "this is hardly ethical". I just get ticked when I see members (esp. diamond subscriber members like tigerbait) get bans while "elite" members get away with personal insults and ridicule on a regular basis.

I agree totally. One thing the AT Forums have DEFINATELY shown me is the existance of the "Good Ole Boy" network eh? ;)
If your "in" you can do whatever, but if your "out" well, mihgt as well live in 40's Germany. Ah well, welcome to a world with closed minds and no explanations.

Excuse your ignorance. We posted an explanation which others have quoted.

Where I think the Moderator erred was in just "vacationing" the person. To be really consistent, the SUGGESTION should have been deleted. ;)

Excellent advice. I always use a VISA or MasterCard, esp on electronics purchases simply because of this benefit.

First off make sure everything is connected right....

now try to turn it on... no luck?

now since it doesn't matter.... beat the hell out of it
maybe that will do the trick... if it doesn't it will still make you feel alittle bit better
