I think certain credit cards give you 1 yr. warranties on any product you purchased with the card. If you bought with a CC, perhaps you want to see if your card offers that protection.

this is hardly ethical, but you could do a switcheroo with Walmart. Buy a new one and put the old one in the box and return it.

Heh, I did that TWICE with my Sony PSX1 when it first came out at Babbages. I played it so much the laser burned out the first one, second one met an untimely end, at the end of my unforgiving foot.

Ethically Challenged.

That's why I bought an extended warranty from EB. If it breaks once it will be $30 well spent. Heck, I could take mine in right now and get a fresh one just because. :p

Found the receipt, it dosnt have any extended warranty on there. Does anyone know if toysrus has anything like this? It was not offered when the xbox was purchased.

This is what happend when I phone:

First call to Toysrus " Hello my xbox broke yadda yadda yadda what can you do to get me back and running. Call the number on your Xbox (there isnt one) and they will send you a pre-paid package for you to send and get a replacement."

Second call to MS (Xbox line) : "My xbox broke yadda yadda yadda what do I do now? Do you have an extended warranty? Im not sure? Take it to the place of purchase and they will help you. Ohhh ok Thank you but Fu(k you"

So now I am puzzled as what to do. It looks as if I might be out $500 dollers , not to mention the copy of NFL Fever stuck inside :|

Fvck, you some of you guys are cheating little bastards! EBay it? You'se are the people that would piss and moan about it if you ended up buying a broken XBox on EBay, yet you are advocating selling one? Fvcking grow up!!!

As for 'unethical', it's also ILLEGAL! :|

Or even the type of people who would feel their constitutional rights have been violated when Best Buy doesn't give them $270 off a GF4 video card...

I think they meant sell my Xbox as Broken...IE state it is broken in the auction description. One is going for $150 right now, would not be a bad second choice at all if I cant get mine replaced in some way or another.

Selling it on ebay might be your best route. For the right bytehead who's into xbox's, he might score a cheap deal on a fixable unit. Just be absolutely clear in your item description that the unit is damaged.

As for the folks doing the ol' switcharoo... bad form. If I caught anyone doing this I'd engage the DS5000 upside the head.

Yep, sell it on ebay as broken, mention it several times in the auction description and the title. Probably won't hurt to remind the high bidder when it gets close to auction ending time that he's bidding on a BROKEN unit. I know that'd make me feel better if I was buying it. Ebay it ASAP though, when the price drops, you'll be lucky to get $100 out of it methinks.

As for the copy of NFL Fever stuck in it, pry that DVDRom drive open. What's the worst that could happen? There may even be an emergency disk eject (I'm betting there is) hole that you can stick a straightened paperclip in and pop the drive open. You'd want to remove it before you RMA the system anyway, because MS is just going to send your old xbox off to the remanufacture plant and give you another refirb one in its place.

The ebay route would have been a good idea a week ago im thinking but now that I look at it I may get next to nothing for it due to the rescent price drop :(

Your suggestion is not appreciated. Please take a week off to think about your ethics.

200 to fix the XBox! that is horrible.

My XBox has been running great since November, but I didn't buy an extended warr.
Do you think I could still get the $50 warr. from Microsoft on this system since I have had it so long?

(I dont want it to break and have to pay 200 just to get it fixed.
