There is no point in waiting for the new 65nm processor. The only reason Microsoft is putting it in is so they can lower the cost of production and gain more profit on each unit sold. There would be no logical reason for putting a faster processor because of risk of alienating the early adopters. The only benefit the consumer will receive from the 65nm processor is lower heat production which means lower fan noise.

pardon my ignorance but does the 360 upconvert dvds? does this question even make sense?

With the VGA cables, yes. Any other cables, no.

so if my hdtv has vga input and i have the vga cable from 360 i'm good but if i only have component in then i'm SOL?

For upconverting, yeah. Can't even use a VGA-DVI converter because most TVs don't accept an analog connection through DVI.

Whoa whoa whoa. Is this through the DVD drive in the 360 or the external HD-DVD drive? We just got a new TV 2 weeks ago and it has a VGA input ... a 360 just might be worth it ...

Also, are there any VGA switches available? Cause my family often connects a laptop to the TV and I don't want to have to fiddle with cables if I get a 360 ...

man get xbox live, you don't know what you are missing, it is awesome. if you are really afraid of getting your ass kicked, play some co-op. playing by yourself is not nearly as fun as playing co-op. good co-op games:

gears of war
Rainbow 6 vegas

you can play online co-op on those games, and I'm sure there will be many more.

Through the DVD drive. The HD DVD drive is not necessary for upconverting DVDs. Just the VGA cable.

Sounds like an Overstock.com deal.

As of right now the same dealer has another $325 Premium 360 deal. I just thought I would mention it.

Also, why is it considered bad to use your console as a DVD player? Excess wear?

it's not. people just use that excuse to justify their purchase of an external dvd player.

ive used my ps2 as a dvd player and my xbox as a dvd player, and now i use my 360 as a dvd player. granted it may not have the greatest set of features (especially the freakin ps2), it still gets the job done.

More details please. How were you able to get a Premium 360 for $325 at amazon?

It isn't under the "Featured Merchants." It is listed under the "New" section. The seller is Bookqueen28. I got it through amazon with this dealer. The dealer has a good rating. If you click on "Bookqueen28" you will see that it is DandE Enterprises.

Wow, I kinda feel like an idiot. Right after I buy a 360, HDMI ports are rumored to be the next thing on 360s. Is this true?

How much better would the rumored HDMI make the picture quality? My TV is only listed as having HDMI IN video as 1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i, so a 1080p HDMI connection doesn't really pertain to me?

It won't make a big difference. HDMI is better than Component quality wise because its all digital, but you probably won't be able to tell a big difference.

The big reason for HDMI is HDCP, which is an encryption technology used to encrypt the signal from your player to your TV. The reason its important is because Hollywood wants it so that when playing back HDDVD and BluRay discs that the player must use encryption or it will downres the video to 540p. But -- since most people don't have HDMI ports on their TV, the ICT (image constraint token) shouldn't be used on discs until 2010 or so -- by then, a standalone player should be much cheaper.

The short of it is that HDMI will eventually be important for movies because of HDCP, and HDMI is slightly better than component. It is also more widely supported for 1080p (not all 1080p TVs support 1080p over component or VGA - while most "Full HD" 1080p TVs will support it over HDMI 1.3).

If you're a videophile, and you have a really expensive TV, you can probably tell the difference between component and hdmi. Personally, I can't tell the difference on my Sony KDS-R60XBR1. If I had the choice, sure I'd choose HDMI over Component, but I don't think I'd re-buy my 360 just for hdmi.

hdmi is not a big deal, the better reasons to wait are the 120 gig hard drive and cooler running processors. I don't really care about those things so I'm sticking with the launch version.

i would get the premuim. just for the fact you need it to play old games. i was thinking of getting a 360 with taxes. but will wait for the new one unless i get a darn good deal on the older one.

The VGA cables work great. You get 1080p and can upconvert DVDs. Just don't get these cables that you linked if you want an optical audio out....it doesn't have one.

But 1080p doesn't really matter in my case, because my TV is only listed as having 1080i, correct? I have a Sony Grand Wega. I'm not even sure if my TV has a VGA input.

I looked on the back and it has an input called "RGB." Does anyone know what this is?

No one in their right mind should ever under any circumstances buy a Core.
