You're missing three 0's.

I'm also predicting BS on the three 3.2GHz cores and predicting a lack of backwards compatibility. But I don't really have any facts to back up my predictions :p

It's been disappointing that there's been no talk of a DD encoder for 5.1 sound in games.

That's absurd. Who gives a $hit if there's no Blu-ray or HDDVD?

In regards to the 3 3.2ghz cores - that's what's been rumored ever since last year when the architecture specs were leaked. You'll just have to wait 3 days (or till E3) till we can prove you wrong. :p

Backwards compatibility was "accidently" verified by Microsoft in a Live subscription survey. It doesn't necessarily say it outright, but it's close:

Xbox Live is an online gaming service that works across both the current Xbox system and the future Xbox 2. You will be able to play online and compete against others across both consoles. If you are playing an Xbox game on Live you will be able to compete against people playing that same game on Xbox 2.

I don't see why you raised the BS flag so fast, considering these are all things that have been rumored and circulated (and never denied) by Microsoft. We'll find out this week for sure, but I'm willing to bet both of the things I mentioned above are 100% true.

Why wouldn't you? Who knows how much Blu-Ray/HD DVD players are going to cost? If you can buy a PS3 which already has a Blu-Ray/HD DVD player built in, I think alot of people will see that as a HUGE benefit.

What is the dang thing gonna do with 3x3.2Ghz CPU's. I mean its a frekin console. I am not saying the specs are wrong, or any of that, but why the heck would it need to be that powerful. I mean with videon games now a days they seem to depend more on the GPU then the CPU. So unless that thing got 3 GPU's then whats it need 3 CPU's for. It just seems like huge overkill, and like others said, they are gonna be losing money big time on the consoles. I know thats how its done, but that seems like a huge loss on the console. But I guess since they think they can charge 70 bucks per game, then maybe they can handle it. But it seems odd to me.

Do you guys really think this thing will be as moddable as the original Xbox? I mean i am sure someone will figure something out with it, but you think MS would do what they could to prevent modders from basically getting more for thier money then MS thinks they should.

Exactly!!! The PS2 was the first DVD player for many people. It's a big part of why the PS2 sales were far superior to xbox sales. Not including support for either Blu-Ray or HD DVD is just stupid, especially since Sony has already announced that the PS3 will support Blu-Ray.

This sounds like some awsome specs, and I'm sure MS is loosing tons of cash on them to buy market share. That's the whole point, early release, large library (if it has backward compatability), competitive price, and they may have a shot at Sony.

Your logic makes no sense - the XBox PLAYS DVDS TOO. :p They were first out of the gate and had a sizeable advantage on a total noob to the industry, who made many mistakes and is looking to correct them the second time around.

Yeah, but you have to pay an extra $30 for the stupid remote control if you want to watch DVDs on your Xbox.

I think this next xbox is gonna kick ass. Wireless controllers so my wife won't be complaining about wires. Xbox live is great already, I can't imagine how they'd make it better. Better graphics is always good. But I do think I'll wait until the kinks get worked out in the initial batch. Those first versions are almost always buggy.

True. Sony charged $30 for a remote as well, although you could use the controller. Playing DVD's was never a factor in sales with the PS2/XBox.

Bulls@#$ It took the Xbox months after it was released before it could play dvd's. The PS2 could do it out of the box. DVD players cost hundreds of dollars back then. You clearly didn't belong to any stereo related forums if you believe that.

Um, no. The DVD playback kit was available at launch. My cousin sure as hell had it that Christmas, less than a month after launch. I had mine the very beginning of January 2002, so thats < 2 months. You're completely clueless.

I don't believe that's the case - IIRC they shipped the XBox DVD Kit at the same time as the console. Here's a review of the kit from Nov 01, the same month the console came out.

That says nothing about backwards compatibility. That only says that Xbox can play with Xbox2 across their network.

You can browse Mac drives with a PC and vice versa over a network, but the two systems definitely are not compatible with each other. All that means is that they both use the same networking technology and the information the application sends out is readable by both systems.

meh. To everyone who says its sooo amazing and will destroy PC gaming....have you seen the rumored PS3 specs? A recent article scoffed that the difference between PS2 and PS3 makes xbox360 look like its not even a real upgrade.

Sony's hype always exceeds everyone else's hype. Unfortunately their PS2 didn't nearly live up to its hype.

Remember the claims of being able to render "Toy Story" in realtime? In the end, the PS2 turned out to be a bit underpowered.

Feel free to link to that article so we can analyse it.
