For all you guys who are touting your launch or near-launch 360's still going strong, I was in your shoes until mid-September when my December 2005 360 died with no previous symptoms whatsoever. Out of warranty, out of luck.

Fortunately I had a newer one I was using as a Media Center Extender in the bedroom that got promoted to full-time use, but I don't plan to replace it anytime soon with another one.

4 years really isn't that bad. I had two ps3's get sightly messed up over 5 years and need to be replaced.

My launch 360 technically still works but the cd drive is messed up and opens (won't stay shut) just bought an arcade and put my old hd in it.

The PS3 has been out a little over 3 years and the XBOX 360 comes with a DVD drive...
