I'm actually not looking forward to this potentially resulting in yet another RROD thread but Gamespot UK is reporting that the warranty firm SquareTrade finds that the 360 RROD failure has dropped dramatically with the introduction of the Jasper chipset. Since the Jasper was introduced a in the third quarter of 2008, first year failures have dropped to less than 4%. Looking at 500 units purchased in 2009, only 1% of those have failed.

Good news that MS is finally getting this right but I'm sure there are still plenty of sour feelings about the RROD. Overall, SquareTrade found the 23.7% of the 360s (any chipset) surveyed failed

My friend's launch RROD. If my played my launch one more I'm sure it'd RROD but I only play it maybe twice a month at most.

if it wasn't limited to year one failures, that graph wouldn't look so deceptively low.

just saying, is all. sure the failure rate is going down, but at the height of crap a heck of a lot more than 10% of consoles were failing in year two, which would make me assume they're certainly not approaching 1% right now.

Jasper has barely been out a year so there's just no way of knowing until the end of 2010.

1 yr...i don't buy anything w/ the intent of keeping for less than 1yr w/ the exception of food and medicine, hell even medicine will last longer.

this is just a feel good graph for ms. still don't know why all the tree huggers don't get on their ass for the shear amount of waste they have created w/ all of their dead 360s but i guess that is what those "recycling plants" in china are for...

A 10% max failure rate? Yeah, and I have unicorns coming out of my ass...

10% in the first year. I'm sure its higher after that.

I'm sure plenty of launch 360s lasted a more than a year prior to failure.

My launch 360 is still going strong, that's plenty enough for me :).

ditto here.....launch system with no problems so far. Even if it does RROD, I wouldn't mind upgrading to an elite. Having said that, I'll probably RROD tonight.

note: I only have a 20gb hard drive, but I always play off the hard drive so that the disc drive isn.t always spinning. Its much quieter that way too.

In case no one noticed, that graph doesn't even include launch 360s...

I'm not sure that I'd trust the numbers from SquareTrade, though they should (in theory) at least be useful for seeing the trend... which appears to be downward, but the extreme jaggedness of that graph makes me wonder about the margin of error. It really shouldn't go 5%->10%->5% for no apparent reason.

I'll stick to buying my 360s at Costco.

I see you pluralized 360...Lucky for me I only bought 2. One at launch and another for the HDMI once it was released.

My buddy has a launch 360 that finally RROD'ed on him last week. A good run, to be sure. Mine, on the other hand, was bought in Sept 2007 and it got the RROD in Aug 2008. My refurb has been so far so good...

Famous last words.

That must be painful, but explains how you so easily fit your head in there.

With a mouth like that, no wonder your tongue fits in there as well.

EDIT: Yes, I admit it, Darkswordsman is my personal human tissue.
