Xbox 360 dies

I got the good old red rings of death and MS said it would cost me $140 to get it repair and I will get 90 days of warranty for the refurbished console. For those of of you who had to get your Xbox 360 serviced, how reliable was it afterward?

Because right now I'm having a hard time justifying $140 for a refurbished console with only 90 days warranty. I think my Xbox playing days are numbered. 🙁
 
find someone you know with a valid warranty and just return it using their receipt. Problem Solved 🙂
 
i got mine RMA'd after 1 month, then the one they returned to me went bust the next %#*@&in day. I am too busy with school to deal with this crap, and my stress reliever is just piling up my problems
 
That thing has a year on it and should be covered depending on when you bought it. MS recently extended their warranty service to a full year from the purchase date. Well you may or may not be covered. I'm guessing you bought this more than a year ago?

Xbox 360 Warranty to One Year

This holiday season, shoppers can buy with added confidence as Microsoft expands its warranty coverage of the Xbox 360? video game entertainment console from 90 days to one full year. Microsoft has announced that any Xbox 360 purchased in both the United States and Canada will include this added warranty coverage, and it even applies to those who have already purchased an Xbox 360 console and who are still within their first year of ownership!

Effective today (December 22), the one year warranty is now the standard for all Xbox 360 consoles. Customers that experience hardware issues with their Xbox 360 within one year of purchase will have their consoles repaired at no cost. Moreover, the new warranty policy is retroactive, so consumers that may have already paid for out-of-warranty Xbox 360 repair within one year of the console's purchase will be eligible for reimbursement of their console repair charges.

"Our number one priority for the Xbox 360 is customer satisfaction," said Jeff Bell, Corporate Vice President of Global Marketing for Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business. "Now, in addition to Xbox 360 offering features such as jaw-dropping high definition graphics, an amazing variety of more than 160 games, and social online and entertainment experiences found on Xbox Live®, this warranty upgrade is an exclamation at the end of an already compelling home entertainment offering."

Customers who have already paid for repairs within their first year of ownership can expect reimbursement checks for the amount of their console hardware repair in approximately 10 weeks. These will be automatically distributed, so customers do not need to proactively contact Microsoft. Customers who have any questions regarding this policy change or who have experienced any hardware issues should visit: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/contact/ or call 1-800-4-MY-XBOX and speak to an agent.

This warranty extension only applies to the hardware and software of the actual Xbox 360 console itself. It does not apply to any Xbox 360 accessories, including any that may have been packaged with the console at the time of its original purpose. Yes I bought it over one year ago, and it's just my bad luck that it croaked today and not two weeks ago. Another kick in the nuts: the manufactured date of my 360 was Jan. 7, 2006...if it had been manufactured a week earlier I would get free replacement since MS said console manufactured in 2005 would get free replacement.

So yeah, I'm counting on my luck and hope the refurbished console would be trouble free...
 
And this is why I purchased the extended warranty on mine. No problems (knocks on wood) and I keep it completely in open air for good circulation. The thing gets toasty after a long gaming session.
 
yep, me too. 3 years of coverage. Game consoles are about the only thing I buy extendeds on.
 
What's the difference between the extended warranties offered by a store (CC/BB) and direct from Microsoft?

in my experiences, the M$ warranty takes slightly less time.
 
Buy it from Costco. The original unit my brother bought failed after the 90 day warranty (before MS extended it). So he took it back to costco and got another one from them. It was also bought with AMEX for double warranty just in case.

All our Xboxes failed at one point, so we figured that the 360 would be no different.
 
My replacement 360 has been working fine, but then I haven't had much time to do much other than watch a movie from time to time. DVD playback still sucks, BTW. 🙁

No, just TVs, Computers, Cameras, Camcorders, iPod/Mp3 players and cell phones. The Costco bundles are actually a good deal (slight discount) on a game, controller and play and charge.

2. Sell at $200 as refurbished goods.
3. Take $200 and put toward a new 360.
 
even if you didn't buy it from costco, hopefully you bought it with a credit card that has a warranty extension (Like AMEX Blue).

That's retarded. So instead of only being out $140 to have the unit fixed, you're out $399 - $60 = $339.

This is ontop of the $399 you spent for the first unit.
