I got mine and found $5 laying by the customer service desk.

I was told 5 times they didn't have any even though the website said they did. The manager even said "then go buy it on the website, it's seperate from us." He was trying to save them for himself. Bas-Tard

Yea, well I went to the Hickory store and they claim they don't have any. I called back and asked about it and they told me the were out. The Webiste still shows they have stock. My guess is there are holding them for themselves, or friends.

The best way is to go instore and have them look it up.
If they say there are none say you want to look at the computer or get someone higher up to do the search.

So I take it they told you guys the same thing, that they were sold out, but when forced to verify they had them? Well, if the website still shows them in stock tomorrow, I may just have to go by there at lunch. This time I will ask at the front desk, and have them look it up on their computer and show me the zero in stock.

The website in-store inventory is just a loose guide. It's a very good start though. A few weeks ago I used it to find one at the CC in Lakewood, CA. I went right before it opened and they had just ONE. The only reason I got it was I hounded the merchandise manager who just happened to be walking by. He initially said they were out but eventually looked it up in the computer. He said that they might have one in the back. He went in the back and returned saying they had just one. That particular day I was very lucky and got one. There were a couple of other people there who wanted it also but couldn't get it.

All the online inventory checks are not to be believed, especially for clearance or hard to find items. Your chances are increased however if you 1) don't call to tip off the employees and 2) get there right before it opens. Even then, there's no gurantee. I've had it happen to me a few times.

On a side note, I picked up one at the City of Industry Best Buy yesterday. The bestbuy.com inventory check for the store said it was in stock at that store and that store only out of all the Los Angeles/Orange Counties stores.

Scored a premium! After checking the CC inventory checker, it showed a local CC (Covina, CA) had them in stock. Drove there around 1pm, turned out they only have core. Talked to the sales manager, he checked their system for me, and found another nearby CC (Montclair, CA, about 15 min away) have 11 premium in stock, and asked me whether I want to pay for the item now and pick it up at the Montclair branch. I did that and the item was ready for me to pick up at the Montclair branch. Sweet!

Yea I got mine at customer service, but later on when my friend wanted to get one (I called him up) there was a manager typer person at the customer service desk. The manager said she didn't know the number for the xbox 360. Then the same rep that helped me said she knew it, but the manager said go to the check out line not the customer service line to purchase the xbox 360. I guess that manager was pretty anal about it.
I makes perfect sense to go to the customer service desk first to get the Xbox 360 not the check out line.

Checked their website, no xbox 360 system listed

There is a separate thread for Best Buy. Have to search on Inventory or Xbox to find it. It does not have Best Buy in the thread title. Link below.

Well, I went back at lunch yesterday and they did have them in stock in Hickory after all. The manager told me they had come in Sunday, but weren't brought out to customer service until later in the day. Anyway, I was able to get one. They tried to get me to buy their extended warranty for $80, I considered it, but I am glad I didn't the extended warranty MS offers in the box is only $50.

Also, I thought the premiums were supposed to come with the media remote? The one I got did not. Did that promotion end already?

Yea they were running a special on the MS warranty if you called MS. It was 39.99, but may or may not be running that anymore.

Mine said something like "Free Media Remote with first XXX,XXX Premium Systems" or something to that effect. It was a quantity limited promotion so it looks like it's caput.

Yea, they only came with the first 500k or so

I got mine NYC, union square store. Keep an eye out on the 80th and broadway store, that one seems to have them in stock longer and more regularly.
FWIW the stock indicator seems very accurate, dont call, just head to the store as soon as you see it in stock.

Mine also included the media remote.

Actually it came with the first 1 million units.

I got one last night in Salem OR. They said i had to purchase "the manager's special" which was 2 games, an extra controler (which they didnt even have) and some extened warranty which brought the cost to 600 bucks. Then they kept on jerking me around on the price for the toatal till i finally just bought the system and project gotham racing and just got out of there. weird.

on another note, as anyone else broken their wireless controler yet? the battery door falls off easily. whatever engineer designed that deserves a box of my feces sent to him in redmond washington.

My brother called the Salinas, CA store Saturday morning & they had 6 in stock. He had to get the manager's permission to buy it...The manager grabbed one from the back & he bought it right then & there. If you were just in the store browsing around, you'd never known they had them in stock.

What a ****** way to conduct business. Whomever set these terrible business practices sure as hell doesn't have the customer in mind. I don't care who set these rules / standards for this damn system, it's a quick & easy way to lose loyal customers. Especially when the PS3 is right around the corner.

I would return the extra crap they made you buy to get the system. Complete BS if you ask me.

Very deceptive if you ask me. Embrace the warranty though. I am on my 3rd portable dvd player from CC using my 4-year warranty. Last time, they gave me a full refund and I bought a newer model for $90 cheaper!

while a few isolated reports of this happening on its own most had to do with the console being moved while it was running. Some say they have it vertical some say horzontal...Mine is horzontal and hasnt scratched a disc yet...for the first 2 weeks it was vertical...hasnt scratched a disc yet...common sense dont move your **** when its on...duh

Also I have had no problems with any of my controllers. Neither has any one else i know
