Xbox 2 powered by AMD !?!

<< Why the fsck are they making xbox 2?! >>

Why not? They've already conquered Nintendo - it was too late to catch up with the PS2. Now when Sony releases the PS3, MS will be in better position to be competitive with them.

That's stupid of Microsoft. If current xboxes are overheating with p3's/celerons (debatable) then sticking a burning hot AMD processor is gonna fry it up even worse. They would need a bigger heatsink and cooling which would just take up more space and make the whole console bigger. Jeez, what are they thinking?
Unless of course AMD has a nice cool processor in the works, then it would be sweet cuz I like AMD better.

<< Simple MS doesnt stop until its #1, even if it takes till Xbox 3, they will do it. >>

i like that about them 😀 capatalisim is great 😀

The current Xbox cpu is a p3/celeron running at 733mhz. AMD is about to shrink their die from .18 to .13 which will reduce heat, not to mention that they are currently at 1733mhz with an 1800mhz cpu probably within the next month. Xbox 2 could easily be powered by an AMD processor with double the mhz as Xbox 1 and still be cool enough with the new die size.

kinda off topic here, but I have had my XBox since november and I have had no problems with it.

no lock ups, no overheating, nothing.
guess I got lucky

I agree. At first I thought the controllers were horrible, but after about a few rounds of DOA3 and Halo I got used to them. I actually like the size of them now.

i seriously doubt they will switch from intel unless they have a really really good reason to switch and they dont at the moment. plus the register isnt a very reliable source.

most people dont, the PS2 and GC fanboys would like to make you think otherwise.

All the new games will probably require you to spend another $400 on the Xbox2 to play, but
the Xbox 2 should still work with all your crappy old games. that's not a bad thing, that's a good thing 😀

Kinda like the PS2 😉 I like the DDP reference 😀

Microsoft might just be using AMD like they did for the Xbox 1 just to get the price down on Intel chips.

the only threaten to use amd get concessions from intel. micrsosft doesnt want to build junk, which is what an xbox based on amd would be

actually AMD is not junk...

who knows like it was said before, Microsoft might be using them to make Intel prices lower.

ditto

wow... thats the best argument i've seen all night. well supported, impeccable diction, classical reasoning... yes, you have it all!

Got a lot of experience with AMD processors do ya? Didn't think so. God, I hate it when people talk about something like they have owned the product when they havn't, or even better when they talk about a product in a bad way just because they "heard" it sucked. Stop listening to the Intel pushers and judge for yourself, since you have obviously not owned any of the newer AMD processors, which blow Intel's product away IMO.
