Xbox 2 powered by AMD !?!

The rumor of MS creating the CPU, GPU and Chipset inhouse IMHO is much more plausible than them going with AMD. Intel can undercut anything AMD could do, so its either Intel or designed inhouse.

<< People that complain about the controllers obviously have never spent more than 30 seconds playing the XBox to make that informative statement. >>

Have you played SSX Tricky on Xbox? Talk about crap control setup. I'll stick with my PS2 version for now.

why the F#*# do people care? its a damn console, what matters are the games. the xbox is ALOT more powerful than the ps2 on paper, yet it is rather mediocre compared to ps2 game-wise.

its not a goddamn computer, who cares what name is on the cpu?

Microsoft designing their own chip is completely out of the question because they do not have their own mass fabrication plants for such chips. It will most likely be Intel all the way, like you said because they have deeper pockets. AMD has a chance if they have a better offering that is readily availible and competively priced. As for the GPU who knows..

They don't need to own a fab. There are a couple semiconductor companies that could do it, namely TSMC. TSMC FABs for Nvidia, they could FAB for MS. MS does have the engineers to do it, if they choose to.

Not having a fab doesn't mean you can't design chips. Look at nVidia.
Now that I think of it, MS could probobly enter the chip market within 5 years. The only problem is that they probobly wouldn't want to. Its not profitable enough, and also because of antitrust reasons.

<< kinda off topic here, but I have had my XBox since november and I have had no problems with it.

no lock ups, no overheating, nothing.
guess I got lucky

My roommate isn't having any problems with his xbox either.

you obviously have never even seen an xbox, rallisport challenge, halo, pgr, doa3, tony hawk 2x, amped, are all totally fun.

Yet another person who proves my point. I own it on the XBox as well as my cousin. We've both played the PS2 version and prefer it over the PS2, from controls to graphics.

SSXTricky/XBox owner here and no problems. I love this game and the control setup is fine.

<< the only threaten to use amd get concessions from intel. micrsosft doesnt want to build junk, which is what an xbox based on amd would be >>

i've never had any problems with my xbox, even left in on for 3 days straight on accident. although i have had to return 2 ps2s. and the dvd playback on them is so bad, i don't even see how its useful. if the only access to dvd playback is with your ps2, your really missing out. the xbox dvd player is very good.'

and it should be obvious when the say "xbox 2" it dosen't mean a new generation of hardware. but just an updated version, where the only thing that changes is the processor. intel must be trying to keep the price of the processor up. no reason not to switch.

for those in the know, there are 8-12 diff versions of the psx.

Oh god.. let's hope we will never see the day when the entire computer from the OS to the PSU has the Microsoft stamp attached.
