XBit Labs broad-based benches

A nicely done review over at X-Bit Labs.

The graphs seem to illustrate the relative power of the dual cores across the board.
Interestingly, it appears that Conroe is to X2 as X2 is to Pentium D...
Fairly comprehensive and worth a read...

Yep, they did a good job. If i'm reading that price/performance chart right then once the price drops from AMD kick in, there is really no reason to get a PD. The 3800+ X2 is right up there with the PD945 in Price/Performance and Price/Watt. The 3800+ X2 really is the sweet spot to me. Conroe really is a beast though, Intel did a good job on that cpu arch. Glad to see that PD crap being flushed.

The only problem I have with Xbit Labs reviews are that they have no dropdown box for navigating the review pages, just "Next page" or "Previous page".

Well if you have a tabbed browser, just open 1 title page, and open the page you want in a new tab, it isn't that big of a deal really.

Looked like a good review but I thought the gaming performance section was somewhat lame. I don't know anyone who games at 1024x768 with no eye-candy except for those people with very old gpus. The kind of people who don't usually spend $350+ on a mobo/processor combo (E6300 + cheap mobo that overclcocks decently).

You know this is a CPU comparison if they upped the eye cnady settings then it would be a straight line across the board from Core 2 Duo, Athlon 64x2, Pentium D. Not one would show and advantage due to the video card limits.

It could use some improvement, but I only open 1 page at a time anyway. the title page plus the page I wish to read. Obvious oyu would get lost if you opened every single one at the same time.

Great indepth review as usual.

Basically put, there is absolutely no reason anyone should even think about buying a Pentium D, & as for AMD, well, they'd need to drop prices a bit more even i think.

Right now we have
E6600 > FX62
E6400 ~ 5000+/4600+
E6300 > 4200+



And with the pricings as it's listed in 1K units, i'd say basically put, there's no reason not to buy anything but a C2D except for someone on an extreme budget.

The unfortunate thing about the C2Ds is the mainboard pricing.

So for that person on a tight budget, the X2 3800+ looks like the way to go, since one can get a mobo for A64 X2s for very cheap.

For a new build, agreed. However, single-core 939 users can do a X2 as a drop in replacement
