Hello I'm about to buy an x850xt pe the only thing I'm worried about is the dual DVI output, I only havea VGA output and I have a geforce 6200 right now, and the VGA to DVI adaptor doesn't work with my monitor, unless I'm doing something wrong ? Any reason it would be, I do notice a wire from my card going into the back of the VGA slot, so maybe if I unplug that it'll let the DVI output trough ? Thanks a lot.

Thats a little odd. Is the wire you referring to the legacy power to the cord?
it might be that output is damaged on your card. I never had a monitor that wouldnt work with my adaptor...

There is probably somthing wrong. I don't think that a dvi>vga adapter can be incompatible with a monitor. I would reccomend agaist buying an x850xt pe though, as it's still around 450, right? The 7800gt is supposed to be released soon for 450, and I'm sure it will slaughter the x850xt.

i suggest if you have the dough for an x850, spring for a cheap dvi monitor, once you go DVI you dont go back

dell 17" DVI ~230
dell 19" DVI ~330

nVidia cards are ALWAYS clocked lower than ATI cards. It's the way of the world :)

However since they keep up just fine, it would seem Nvidia cards are more efficient.

Buying an X850 right now is senseless. #1. The X800XT is much cheaper and barely slower. #2. If you have the cash to drop on an X850 might as well get the 7800GTX, which is a better card.

I'm still waiting to see the R520 and it's performance. Its a month away and I cant wait :)

Remember, even though clock speeds are higher (Intel) doesnt meen it has better performance (AMD). I assume you already knew that though.

It's hard to believe but I would take his advice. For my experience w/ my vga card. It costed me $350, can't beat that price anywhere (built by ATi)

Useless getting a X850 card right now...the 7800GT should be released this month debuting at $499 and it should slaughter the X850. If you search you can get a 7800GTX for around $500..some ppl have claimed that Dell was selling one for $491.

You keep telling yourself that. R520 has been delayed past September some reports say. I have heard somewhere around late october.

Honestly save the money or spend it better by getting a 6800GT/X800XT, or getting a 7800GTX.

If you are about to buy a X850XT PE, you are about to be ripped off.

1. The card is based on SM2. SM3 has been the MS standard for over a year now.
2. The cards feature set is from 2003. No HDR, no soft shadows.
3. It's pretty slow compared to a 7800GTX.
4. 7800GTs are supposed to be out very soon, and will likely be faster, surely be more future proof as far as the feature set goes.

However; I'm not a big proponent of waiting around on products, and IMO the 7800GTX easily justifies it's less than $100 price difference.

The X850XT PE is a dinosaur, that level of performance was the top a year ago. It will not serve you well on current and upcoming titles. (e.g. BF2, FEAR)

Comparing X850 and 7800 together is like oranges and apples. It's like you compared a 6800 Ultra with a 9800 XT...

Though, at the price x850XT PE is at atm, it's not worth it.

Just trying to help the guy. An X850XT PE is really a suck card compared to a 7800GTX, and it doesn't cost much less.

There's no "ATI wants to sell a card this month so they're giving away X800XLs" pricing going on here- it's just old tech at high prices.

While you can argue that, if you want the fastest card from respective companies, seeing as we have nothing on the R520 yet, that is the only card to compare the 7800GTX to.

I agree that the PE is a waste since its only 20Mhz faster then the XT. However....
The statment about it not doing well in current and upcoming games is just wrong.

After reading a few posts here and there I must say Rollo you are nothing more then a Nvidia troll with no clue about anything.

I'll have you know that my 9800 Pro with only 128MB of ram runs BF2 just fine at 1280x1024 with everything on high.

I doubt that.

Link

Looks kind of rough for a 6600GT, much less a 9800Pro.

i wouldnt doubt the 9800pro performance, i could run hl2/cs:s 4xAF, 4xAA 1280x1024 with great FPS, i want to say i think it was 60-80?? someone confirm that.
Either way the 9800pro was a powerful card and i dont doubt it running bf2 exceptionally well.
go nvidia, go ati, i have owned both brands. currently, however i am running a x850xt, and its flawless

Let me tell you Rollo, I'm pretty dissappointed right now with the horrible performance I'm getting. I bought my card new for $380 and you got each of yours for how much? I'd say for a card that costs ~65% less than the all mighty 7800GTX it doesn't do too bad.

Sure in Doom3 and FEAR it gets stomped, but that's a given. You'll probably quip that Half-Life 2 is an ATI game, which is true, but you'd expect a new uber next-gen card to trounce it even being made for ATI cards.

I jumped on the 7800GTX bandwagon too so I have nothing against it. I'm just tired of people spouting off how the X8xx series aren't a good buy now that the 7800GTX is out (said with a worshipful and fawning voice). For 90% of the performance (at common resolutions) at 65% of the cost, I'd say that's a pretty smart buy.

No one said it was a slow card. It lacks a lot of features, not to mention it cannot possibly be updated to support WGF standard without 32bit FP support.

In all the X800XT and up aren't worth it aren't worth it because the 7800GTX is out. The Pro was never really worth it with the 6800GT. Additionally the XL AGP isn't worth it with the 6800GT AGP. In PCI-E however the X800XL is a bit cheaper. The X800 is pretty worth it since i beats the 6600GT in most games at the same price.

Performance isn't everything. Before the 7800 came out my stance was:

If you are going to be upgrading very soon (ie: 6 months) into next gen, than the ATI card will be a better buy because you wont care about the features of the future. All you will want is speed.

If you were going to be waiting for a while, or skipping the R520/7800 then the Nvidia card is probably better as it has features that are/will be used (SM3, 32bit FP, Soft Shadows)

Rollo spouts pro-nvidia propaganda as usual, and although you don't have to believe him, I do agree that it's not worth buying the x850xtpe right now at it's current price. It's still a fast card, but I'd recommend getting something cheaper to hold you over until the r520 is out. That way, you can compare it against the 7800gtx, and see which is better. Or you can get the 7800gtx now, and sell it later if the r520 is better.

I see your point and if money is no object than the 7800GTX is definetely the best out right now. But considering that I've seen new X800XT's for $270-320 that's half the cost of a new 7800GTX and still has very good performance

You are bashing him for supporting Nvidia, yet you agree with him .... genius.
