I doubt it'll be shader model 3.0. The x850 looks to be a slightly upclocked version of the x800 with a few thermal enhancements, and the fact it'll be PCI-e only.

looks wise, this is the ugliest ATI videocard i've ever seen.

I wonder if the prices on current cards will fall then, making them a bargain, considering that these cards have very small incremental increases in clock/memory speeds % wise.

Only PCIe? What are they thinking????

It's bad enough that Nvidia will get all the christmas sales with 6600GT AGP...

I've been wondering when we'd see a dual slot solution from ATI. Does anyone know if X850 Pro or SE (if there is one) will be a single slot design? I guess I don't realy care since it's an internal component I'll never see, but I agree that this thing is ugly.

Pretend there was an AGP version, what would be the biggest difference between it and an AGP X800 aside from the thermal properties and the stock speeds? None from what they said, but I'll wait for Anand to introduce the card to us before I finalize my opinion.

First I've heard of it too.

Seems there will be three X850 cards, the X850XT PE, the X850 XT, and the X850 Pro. Might be worth a look when released, some of those clock speeds look impressive, given the X800 line's performance at present.

The main thing I see is the clock speed is hardly improved for all that uber-cooling...the X800XT is at 500 mhz, the PE is at 520mhz but is non-existent, but this thing with its two-slow blower only manages a mere 20 mhz above XTPE. But of course the real clencher is that it's PCI-E only, which means the value of this launch is practically nil, as an AGP XT PE equivalent is still rare if not impossible to find. Unless they've already made these x850's SLI compatible, this launch is just an answer to a question no one asked.
