Had an interesting conversation with a retailer/etailer about ATI's *p* poor record of delivery of their high end cards. HE CLAIMS that ATI, although the 'manufacture' in Canada, have sub-assembly sites that were moved into the middle of the Indian Ocean by big waves. The message was that as sub-assembly is switched to other locations they will be able to ramp up their manufacturing.

The problem is that ATI won't say squat about their operations. Perhaps there are legitimate reasons for delays. Layered with the existant, illigitimate reasons, they kill shipment to end users. The guy says ATI promises product almost immediately.

I am #92 of almost 600 back-orders for X850's he's waiting to fill.

Why not just stick to your GeForce2?
Why don't you and Ackmed trade insults on the phone and push off the forums?

The PE was also $499 for several days last week, at monarchpc. Then they got gay, and raised it to $568, now its well over $600. Seems like your waiting isnt helping you.

Its widely available, all you have to do is open your eyes.

You know, Ackmed, the cards have been available all along, at high prices, from a few vendors. NewEgg was out of stock of most cards just a few days ago. The situation is changing, as I alluded to in my post. They are still not widely available, and are still priced high.

You could have said " Yeah they are starting s to show up more places," but you had to get your knickers in a twist and hurl insults. Tell it to Zebo.

Keep on waiting..the best aint coming down to suit your budget. If your too cheap or poor to dole out for what you want you got three choices. Luck out and find a retail XTPE. Get XT for cheap. GEt XT for cheap and OC well past XTPE levels.

Care to tell me when I hurled an insult at you?

You said you were waiting, and by the looks of it, for a long time. I offered a link, to a card that is in stock, and under MSRP, and you get a tude? Wow.

They are widely avail, just usually over MSRP. As are most high-end PCI-E cards.

Actually, it is. I don't think I'm cheap, and I know I'm not poor. I'll be getting a card when I can get a PE at or around MSRP. While I'm waiting I can take pleasure in the knowledge that although I make typos, at leat I can spell.

The impication is that I have been looking around with my eyes closed. In fact, searching for the retailer that has a card in stock, and is selling it for around MSRP, is a crap shoot. They come up here and there, in dribs and drabs. As fast as they appear, they are snatched up. Its not for lack of looking, its timing.

The post is about the underlying cause of the backlog of orders. Where's your sympathy for the victims of the greatest natural disaster in modern history?

If an XT is what I'd been waiting for, that would have been true. What do you think of my current video card? Oh, you DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS!

Hey guys, this is fun, but I'm going to get some sleep. Big day tomorrow.

mwave.com has the X850XT(non PE) for $459. Mine clocks past PE speeds. The PE has VIVO and dual DVI, both of which I didn't need. GP

mwave's price is WELL below retail, and gosh darn it, it runs Far Cry and HL2 SEAMLESSLY on my POS Dell 8400. Who would of thunk it. I was on ATI's wait list for an X800XL, but with a few sales of old PC equipment, I was able to justify spending the extra $200 AND using the card now. I cancelled my order with ATI. I think I'm fairly future proof with a NON PE XT850XT. My .02 cents. GP

Ubermacher, you have serious problems and you deserve no help for being an ass!

Plus you're stupid. You would rather wait and pay 200+ more for a card that barely outperforms the cheaper one.

X850XT PE $599

Since MSRP is $549, that's slightly over MSRP. If you really want an XT PE, and you are spending $550, what difference do extra $50 make?

Besides, XT and XT PE will probably both overclock to exactly same levels on both gpu and memory. And if they dont, you wont be able to tell the difference in the real world anyway.

At this rate, by the time it comes down to MSRP, it'll take 1 month. Then you'll drop $550 on it and guess what in May a whole new generation of cards will have come out.

Waiting only makes sense if: 1) you expect a cash infusion in the near future which will allow you to purchase a product you cannot afford and want right now 2) you are still willing to put up with slow performance, suggesting that the level of frustration associated with poor performance (in terms of "costs") hasn't exceeded the cost of the product you plan to purchase in question 3) you expect significant price drops or a new product replacement in the near future; 4) you have e-penis issues and you only want the latest and the greatest for bragging rights.

You are so dumb... 20mhz more core and 50mhz more memory. You will get a 1-2% increase over an X850 XT for 19% more money. Considering they are the same core, the same memory, and everything manufactured the same way, they will OVERCLOCK the same. I get the picture your the type of person thatd pay 1500 bux on a card thats 1-2% faster than a 500 buck card if the 1500 is "msrp" just so you can get the "best" so good for you, my X800 Pro outbeats them both and I paid 300 for it 8 months ago.

The only reason to get a PE over just a regular XT is that it has dual DVI. You will not notice the 3% difference in performance, no matter how much you try.

Is it just me or did the OP get really defensive over nothing? Chill out man, they were just trying to be helpful.

that XT might be a killer deal...and it also has the rage theater chip (vivo) and everything. When i bought mine from mwave i didnt know WHICH OEM card i get...but it was the sapphire.

Problem is only...EVEN if its identical to the PE, and i also flashed various PE bios on it...this card does NOT overclock for ****.......i am sitting on this issue for a while now....but just 20mhz on core or 20mhz on mem and the crad fraks out and starts artifacting.

The memory SHOULD make 600mhz easily since it is 1.6ns Samsung, rated at max 625 mhz.

I really dont know whethter it is the card....iit might also be a heat issue i have with my case....eg. horrendous temps in my case. The card (my whole system) gets very hot....and opening the side panel you can see the temp dropping like crazy. It just kinda irks me since i did NOT expect any problems clocking this card at atleast PE levels....still checking into that issue.

i had a PE backorderd since....December. I had a list with 25 vendors who had the retail PE listed for under MSRP. Eg. i pre-ordered from Sparco.com

After they changed the ETA three times (and despites that people laughed at me over at rage3d :) ) i canceeled the preorder and got me the mwave XT.

ALSO...*today* is the magical day where many of those 25 retailers listed their ETA: February, 22 ! Today !

DUH !!! Just checked sparco....no ETA given...

I am glad with my XT...i am playing HL2 and Doom3 right now...instead of hearing lies about ETAs and fantasy stories about tsunamis hitting ATIs manufacturing plants.

The OEMs are definitly available....but i doubt you will get a retail for uder $7009...if at all !

I put a PE on order @ Chumbo on 2/7 figuring that since they came through for some of the AT guys on PCI-E 6800GTs at good prices, maybe I'd get lucky. I decided to give it 2 weeks while I built up the rest of my rig. It's been 2 weeks... and I now have the Sapphire XT arriving from Newegg tomorrow or Thurs. instead. I'm really not anticipating disappointment with the XT.
