You guys are misunderstanding the ship date posted. This October date is for ordering from ATI's online store. It does not apply to ATI's retail partners who has dibs on the first allocations of cards. Generally, ATI will not sell directly until it's initial order obligations are filled with all it's distribution and OEM partners.
Take it as a GOOD sign. If ATI feels they'll have enough sell directly themselves by October, chances are, EVERYONE will have them in stock long before then.

No one anticipated the incredible demand for this card based on the sale of previous $500 cards or the fact that Samsung could not keep the production of the necessary memory modules. It's a hot item that's hard to get, not impossible.
However, blaming Samsung isn't really a smart move. As far as know, X800XT, X800Pro, 6800Ultra, 6800GT use all same type of memory - GDDR3.
you work for ATI, right?Originally posted by: Brian48

Well then, obviously NOTHING is. A "paperlaunch" implies that this product never even hit the market. That is just not so. The fact of the matter is, the x800xt WAS launched in early Jun and several hundred people picked one up, myself included. No one anticipated the incredible demand for this card based on the sale of previous $500 cards or the fact that Samsung could not keep the production of the necessary memory modules. The above IS the definition of PaperLaunch: something that really looks awesome on paper but is UNavailable to the general consumer

I'm as general a consumer as you get, and I got my X800XT PE a while ago. Maybe I just got lucky, but I ordered it from CompUSA about a week or so after it showed up on their site, and received it mid june.
2) win the 'gpu lotto' so it APPEARS someone is actually getting them

So does the 5700u, something tells me they all don't use the "same" GDDR3 memory.
