he does have the point that it's more expensive than the other pre-order at GW. Now if they ship in a week, I'm willing to spend the extra.
 
Yep, I got my confirmation number today as well. The expected delivery date is 8-24. Now it's time to pray to video card god and hope this date is true.

Yes, $447 for a X800XT is too much. I cancelled my Gateway order that was $391 to the door because I didn't feel like listening to Gateway guess at release dates and call me to request extending my order anymore.

IMO anything over $250 or maybe a max of $300 is too much for a video card. I paid $200 for my GF4-4200 and it lasted me a year plus and I paid $250 for my 9800NP (flashed to pro) and it's lasted me even longer. IMO, anyone that pays $650+ for a video card is crazy that dude who paid $1125 for a 6800Ultra Extreme or whatever it's called is a complete idiot. These cards were announced and released months ago and they're still commonly sold above MSRP. That's BS and I'm not going to feed the frenzy.

Like I said, I normally wouldn't pay over $300 for a card but I don't normally buy the latest and greatest. Since this is arguably the fastest card available and about $80 off retail I broke my rule because it should last quite a while. However, if my order is over $417 it will be cancelled, period. I'm willing to bet these cards (X800XT & 6800U) will be commonly available for ~$400 in a few months (Christmas) anyway.
 
robor, you fail to comprehend that the balance of power between cpu and gpu has changed in the last few years. If in the past most graphics processing was done on the cpu, and the graphics card served mainly as a place holder for video frame buffers circuitry to convert the data to a cga signal, but in recent years more and more processing has been shifted to the GPU, and with the introduction of high level APIs such as directx 8 and 9, you can only perform the amount of processing required by games using a specialized processor. Let's remember that the games of today run at much higher resolutions than in the past, and include a lot more detailed textures, and high polygon counts, because that is what people expect to get in today's games. So in fact the GPU is much more important to overall graphics performance in 3D apps and games than the CPU and chipset, therefore it is justified for a high end gpu to be priced in the same range as high end CPUs, and that is what you see in the free market place. Since the new graphics cards can handle an enormous amount of details (polygons, textures) and render tham in high resolutions at respectable frame rates, they will be viable for at least a few years, therefore the price is unlikely to drop much. In my opinion the x800pro and 6800gt could drop to about 350, while the top of the line x800xt-pe and 6800UE will not drop below 450 even next year.
 
I have to agree with user1234 said. Yes, $500 is a huge chunk of money for a video card, but the quality of GPU has grown much faster in this generation than any previous designs. Even 6800nu is faster than 5950 and 9800pro. So, if your budget for a videocard is around $300, then 6800NU is the choice for you. I'm afraid that the current top crop video card won't be lowering the price for awhile.

It's all about supply and demand. Sure, the card is listed as $499.99 for XT, but ATI has a hard time to manufacture enough of these cards to satisfy the demand. Therefore, whoever is willing to pay the premiem, get these cards. If the production problem can't be fixed, there's no way the price will be lowered enough to fit your $300-$400 budget. It's not that ATI is hiking the price, it's resellers are price grouging it. Yes, I didn't want to wait for Gateway's countless delays, but I don't blame them. I canceled GW's deal as well. I hope Dell can keep up it's promise and I will still get the card much lower than current msrp.

I ordered on the 13th at 8 am, still no confirmation (got the acknowledgement though).

Does anyone know if Dell has sales tax in PA? I am going to school in 2 and a half weeks, if it doesn't ship by then, I'd like it to ship to school. Saving the 25 dollars from tax would be great.

I'm not bringing my desktop to school until the end of september, early october, so waiting is fine. I doubt we'll see it w/ a much lower price within the next few months, given the low supply and extreme demand.
 
GODam***! I knew it was going to happen. Clicked on the link last night and was about to order. Remembered the gateway deal i hopped in and I thought that I should cancel it first. Cancelled it today and clicked this link. Lo and behold, the x800xt is flat GONE!! Now im left with no x800! How could this happen to me!!!
 
Dell will charge tax for this order as it stated in the order confirmation mail. If your business have tax examption, you need to fax in the forum in order for Dell to remove tax from the order.
 
I hear your arguements and I still say $500 is way too much to pay for a video card. Put it this way, I've got a 9800 "Pro" that cost me $250 to the door and it plays nearly every game today flawlessly. What I have to ask myself is are there any cards out there that are $500 better than mine? Is it worth $500 just to play Doom3 and Far Cry faster? For me the answer is absolutely not.
 
To each his own, I guess. I see PC Gaming as a hobby. Just as with any hobby, the amount of money spent in that pursuit seems excessive from the outside. I'm into Home Theater as well. Many folks not into it, would say that the price paid for a new sub was foolish, when their older, smaller speakers sounded "to them" nearly as good.

I got this error code as well before when I try to access my account. So, I was very surprised that Dell still sent me a confirmation #. Just wait a bit.
 
Ordered Friday morning at 8 am, still no confirmation! What the heck. I called dell but since I don't have an order status (used the automated system), I found nothing out. I guess I shouldn't expect anything, it's not like they have an obligation to fulfill our orders! (I did get an acknowledgement email)
 
how can we check to see what our order is doing if we have acknowledgement but no confirmation? I ordered on 8-12 so it has been almost a week.

anyone get a confirmation yet? I ordered 6 days ago and still nothing. I sent them an email too, how long do they usually take to reply?
