This is true, but I don't have any PCI cards to hand. More AGP than I can shake a stick at, but no PCI. I also lack the money to buy even the worst one around. If I can lay my hands on one, then I will give the bios flash a whirl. For now I'll stick to O/Cing balls out via ATITool.

On that note, wrapping the thing in a Koolance VID-ATI-VO6 http://www.koolance.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=29_46&products_id=175 should do for cooling at that temperature, right?

It'll be the only thing in the W/C loop.

Hello, new to these forums...have to say full of great info and very helpfull people. I am putting together a new system, and have to say i am convinced that the GTO2 is the perfect choice after reading these forums and a few others. Budget is important to me or my wife would kill me lol. Availability seems to be lacking. Tough getting ahold of these GTO2 models. Hopefully next week i can order one from my favorite online retailer. Anyway, just thought i would get a jump on things and download the flash utility from locutus 12... It works just like advertised....thanks very much in advance lol...once i actually purchase the card i know it will be a snap. One quick question. If the bios flash doesnt fly first shot, i just insert a old pci vid card and run the boot disk again. Do you recommend reflashing back with option 2 or just try number one again until it works proper...and guess i was just wondering what are the odds of it damaging the card for good with a bad flash. It sounds so simple but to tell my wife i spent $600 dollars on 2 video cards and only one works, might be hazardous to my health hehe. Heres a cool link if anyone is interested in the Sapphire GTO2...if this was already linked sorry :}http://www.avault.com/hardware/getreview.asp?review=SX800GTO2PCIE

Welcome to the forums! I'd also like to know if it's possible to use a secondary video card to reflash the first one. If you can, the best way to do it is to back up the BIOS of your first card (don't just assume you can download one anywhere, they may not work right).

you use a PCI card, boot to the disk and reflash your PCI-E GTO2 back to normal with option 2 :)

the util i built has the correct default bios for ALL GTO2 cards built in to it, you simply pick option 2 and it will flah back to normal. this is easy to do as sapphire are the only people who make the GTO2 and as such they use 1 standard bios for all the GTO2 cards.

Let me understand this correctly.... You can't afford a PCI card, but you want to put a $130 watercooler on a ~$225 video card?

:p

I know exactly where you're coming from, but it was a gift, out of the blue, from a family member. Ordinarily, I'd not bother, but seeing as I have it for free...

I intend to have the things cooled with the coolance units when I get crossfire sorted, I don't fancy two cards that close to each other without something good clamped onto it for cooling. Although, that's al in the future, when I get back into work..

Also, forgive my idiocy, but what bios would I flash the thing to?

thankyou for that lovely vote of confidence there alimoalem...

its not a Virus. if it were i think the 100 or so people that have downloaded it wouldnt be too happy with me. it flashes the X800GTO2 to allow it to become an X850 XTPE in an easy step for those people out there that have no floppy drive, or maybe dont have knowledge of how to gain access to an indipendent command prompt under a windows 2000 or higher operating system. i built it out of a love for this card and a desire to help, not out of malice.

well a good aftermarket cooler for the X800`s is the Arctic cooler revision 5 and arctic silver heat goup, :)

as for the GTO, if there was a GTO that would most likely mod it would probably be the sapphire, but the only certainty is the X800GTO2 ... however, your welcome to try, it shouldnt damage the card if it doesnt work, you will just need to install an old pci card if you have one and reflash the bios back to default.

...continued

So I decided to flash back to 12 pipelines and I got an error...Now I am thinking ohh my this is not my day, I already thought I had lost my RAID 0 - turned out to be a bad SATA cable and hours of frustration.

Anyway the good new is after failing to revert back tot he 12 pipelines I just slammed on option 1 again (16 pipelines) and Waaala. I have 16 pipelines that show in ATI Tool What a day. Thanks OP! Working as intended.

Thanks for the updates

Would it be possible for you to alter this flash util so it could work on the Connect GTO too?

I ordered the Sapphire X800 GTO2 card a couple days ago (the online retailer site I got it from already has boosted prices by $20 in just the last 2 days- whew!)

Two questions:

1) Can I use Nero Express 6 that came with my Plextor drive to burn the the locutus12 created ISO image correctly? Or do I need the full retail version of Nero Burning ROM?

2) Am I going to have to run power to this card with some kind of PCIe power adapter? Or is that just an option? I currently have an X700 Pro 256mb vid card and it doesn't require any additional power so I'm a little confused.

Any help appreciated - new card arrives on November 2nd and Call of Duty 2 is waiting to be conquered!

BTW - THANKS locutus12 - your solution seems way easier than what I have previously seen on the net.

Mark

actually, the Connect3D X800GTO is currently unlocking at about a 99% success rate.
There was 1 failure reported over on Techpowerup forums, but it may have been user error..

I've successfully flashed mine; all is well. Stays pretty cool at stock clock speeds with the stock cooler
