Has anyone received their X2 3800+ and overclocked it? I'm interested to know if they are speed binned or if they've got a lot of potential. I might buy one but don't want to pick on up for their current price fi they don't oc well.

It hasn't done any prime95 time yet, but it's been rock solid doing other things - hasn't crashed once!

The stock hsf makes a lot of noise, thought I can't get my room temp below 80 even at night.... anyone know what the cfm on it is? I'm currently looking at the XP-90 but aiming for as close to silent as possible (if I can make it close to silent in summer, it'll be whisper in winter!) 35dba for the XP-90 retail fan is a bit too much :(

XP90 and a 92mm panaflo. I have two in my bedroon, and hard to hear them at all. The power supply fan on my Antec Sonata is louder, and that is quiet !

Markfw900: wow! I have a Sonata also, those panaflo must be quiet :)

thegimp03: currently I'm getting 90 idle, 114 load with ambient of 84. But I've read that the Neo2 sensors aren't great.

I haven't read that!!! If actually I think it is closer to dead on then the consistent temp reporting problem boards like Asus and Abit....I am loading at 49-50c now ( 2instance of FH always running) and the hsf is warm at best...It says my case is 24c (room is about 21-22 constant) which seems dead on cause the exhaust air is cool as room temp....

first of all you are reporting fahrenheit not celsius...90f = 32c....114f is 45.6c....those are not bad but your idle is a bit high which is either indicative of high room temp or poor case cooling....Neo2's get a bad rap cause corecneter suxs arse...use fanspeed or use S&M program which has a nice monitoring app that will record...

There was a cpu sensor fix inthe bios version 1.8, but it was to fix a bug that was creted in the 1.6 bios.....I have seen pretty much same test form bios 1.3,1.37mod,1.41mod,1.5,1.51mos,1.6,1.62,1.8,1.9b5,1.9b6,1.9b7r2,1.9b8,1.9,and finally 1A3

XP120 with a delta fan for the win!.
AthlonPowers, your mb might be adding the 2 temps together
90 idle/2=45
114 load /2=57
those themps are better, though still somewhat unbelieveable.

well i heard the cpu multiplier was locked at 10? is this true? cuz if it is it basically depends on ur ram.. i think..

I would think it would depend more on a Mobo that will do over 250 HT ( if you want more than 2.5g ).. RAM can always be downclocked..

Don't know too much about overclocking but mines running 2.4 ghz stable@ stock voltage with an ultra quiet artic cooling freezer 64 (review). Just did a fsb bump. Seems like an awesome deal since it compares so favorable to the $1000 x2 4800 at that speed. x2 4800 vs x2 3800@2.4

Duvie was right - I was reporting Fahrenheit and not Celsius. I'm now using speedfan to monitor the temps and I've installed an XP-90 with a nexus fan (25cfm@1500rpm) while I wait for a panaflo. At 2.5GHz 1.4v I'm getting 33C idle and 50C load (2 x Prime95 blend torture test) in a room at 27C right now. Not sure what's happening there, it was warmer the other day :( Maybe I put too much AS5 on?
I should probably add that I'm running it in a Sonata with only the included rear 120mm fan, which is the noisiest part in the thing (running off regular 4-pin not fan-only)

Anyhow, when I select FSB speed more than 250 it won't post, regardless of voltage, and the multiplier won't go higher than 10. I'm plenty happy with it though, it's put in some good prime95 time these past couple of days, but I have dropped the speed back down right now to see what sort of temps I get at default (44C so far) Even then, my ol' XP-M is way behind in the rear-view mirror :D

thats a really good article that shows the 3800 is a great powerful chip.. and at the cost shouldn't be over looked... but grabbed up quickly.

I got mine up to 2.3Ghz stable with 2 instances of prime95 for about 5 hours at default vcore with just bumping front side bus. When I bump it up to 2.4 ghz, the computer crashs in windows at default vcore.

Vegeto456, what m/b are you using and what idle/load temp are you getting with artic cooling freezer64?
