x1950 pro much better than 6800 ultra?

I have a chance to upgrade my old AGP machine from the 6800 ultra it is currently using to an x1950 Pro, but I am just wondering if the x1950 Pro is enough of an increase to even bother. The 6800 ultra is 256mb version and the x1950 Pro is 512mb DDR3 version. Will there be a noticeable increase that it's worth the upgrade?
The mobo is an Abit IS7-E with a P4 3.2ghz northwood, 4gig of RAM.
Any input would be appreciated!

1950Pro is roughly equivalent to the 7800GT if I remember. It would be better, but probably not enough to be worth spending any money on 😛

Hell yeah. X1950pro has similar performance to a 7900gt. If the price is right, go for it...

The X1950 Pro is much faster, but you may not see it's full performance potential on a 3.2GHz P4 cpu.

i have a x1950 pro and its a big difference.

i don't know if its just me but when it comes to converting avi to dvd. you'll see how many frames the x1950 can push out than the 6800gt. game wise a little better but 6800gt would do juss as fine.

to be honest, yes, its quite a bit faster and has HDCP

it all depends on how much your spending on this though.


The 3850 is available in AGP, but Im not sure its worth going that route without upgrading to Dual or Quad, which will then be PCI-E anyways.

I wouldn't spend more than $40-50. Don't invest any more money into an AGP rig 🙂

i have the 1950Pro (although PCI-e) and i just finished playing Fallout 3 @ 1600x1200 no AA on my rig. its a very nice card.

unless you have one of CPU's coupled with an Asrock 4coredual VSTA or 775Dual board...then an AGP 3850 makes perfect sense.

however, using a X1950 pro with a P4 is pretty much overkill, you should see some small gains but don't expect too much.
