X1800XL vs 7800GT Purchase Poll

First off, the comparison on HardOCP was between a 7800GT and X1800 XL, not X800 XL, as fierydemise has pointed out.

Second, having two different people independently do screenshots on two different systems is not a very thorough way to do a comparison. I would be more inclined to believe the results I see from a reviewer who has done a systematic comparison, where the only variable that has changed is the video card.

I voted for the 7800GT, though I would by a different brand. (Not that it matters much, I still cannot afford it.)

I don't know what you were thinking morph, but I completely knew that Spartan had an X800XL. I remember you saying that the X800's had MUCH better image quality than any of the 6 series cards. Anyway, the intent for this test was to discredit the HardOCP pics which OBVIOUSLY were borked. I have no doubts that the X1800XL has improved AF over the X800 series, but, as you can see by my screenshot and someone who knows what they are doing, that the 7800 can run with the best of them even if slightly less than the X1800's. There is not a major difference as you say. Anyone can see that from my GTX shot compared to the HardOCP shot of the X1800XL.

I just sent Ronin an HL2 save game in that exact location and he will take some snaps also. I would also appreciate anyone who owns an X1800XL to try this as well. I can send anyone the save game file to be in the exact same spot.

The X1800XL looks like night and day in those shots. Your XL shots looks good but seems to get blurrier the further down it goes.

Okay, I'm an ATI fan, but man to me this shot looks just as good as the HardOCP 1800XL shots. I wonder why their screenshots of the 7800GT looked so bad?

I think it is possible that AF was either turned off or set to Bilinear/Trilinear Filtering.
My wonder is, why didn't anyone pick up on that?

Oh, just to let everyone know that although this seems off topic to the OP's thread, it is actually to contest a comment made by one of our fellow members here that the X1800XL does not in fact have to beat a GT's price to justify it's purchase because the X1800XL's IQ is MUCH better. As you can see, this is not the case. So, If a GT outperforms an X1800XL in framerate, and has equal IQ, and both sell for example, 300.00, anyones vote should go to the GT whether you're an ATI fan or not.

I would like to see more screenies to dismiss the IQ myth. I would like to even encourage X800/X1800 owners to cheat (if possible) to get the very best image quality they can possibly muster out of their cards. And compare to 6800's and 7800's.

Crazy Dingo and M0RPH....all I can say is DUH!!!! I think I can read just fine Spartans links. I knew it was an x800XL...I was commenting on what was shown and what eys was commenting on at HardOCP.....

I think you need to be the ones paying closer attention....Instead of just insults at members you may want toread what was actually going on.....

The only problem I see in your price comparison is that Sapphire actually has a reputation. I never heard of 3D Fuzion and apparently neither did Newegg.com or ZZF.com unless they go under a different name. Not to mention Tiger Direct does not have the best reseller rating out there. Will it make a difference once the card is in your box? Maybe not, but Sapphire sells high because it can.

Other than that....I think the whole AF vs. AF IQ controversy is a petty argument.

I'd hardly call Sapphire a golden gem. Take a look around and see how many complaints there are on various Sapphire cards.

3D Fuzion might not be a respected (or, perhaps more aptly, well-known) brand name but these days money does the talking. For most of us 😀

Like a few of us said, nobody has heard anything about 3Dfuzion, that would include anything bad. They have been around since the FX series at least. No news is good news.
Even without the rebate, it's still 70.00 cheaper.

WOW i'm sorry ati-fan boys but in that pic the GT looks better then the xl, only at the highest res with adaptiveAA does the fench on the xl look as good.

compared to the hard pics, it almost looks like they did something wrong.

but comparing the shot we have of this 7800gt to that of hardocp we see that Keys looks alot better, much close to what hard got with the 1800xl. and that the 800xl looks worse.

from this shots the iq/af looks more like 1800xl=7800gt > 800xl
