Though I don't think this second poll was particularly necessary, I do believe the other poll was lopsided to pit a fairly high priced GT (and leaving out the rebate) against the lowest price XL. That being said, trolling the thread won't make the XL any better of a value, ATi fanboys. Plus the FEAR article from this morning definitely put aside my last doubts, as the ATi lead disappeared and the XL is definitely slower than the GT now at all settings. ATi better start putting some serious volume out to compete pricewise, because although prices have dropped, they have to maintain a steady supply to see the prices the GT has.

And if the performance doesn't improve quite a bit, the XL will not only have to meet the GT prices, but beat them.

Nah, it doesn't have to beat the GT's price because it's got better image quality.
In fact, to compare these cards fairly you'd need to use the 'very high' quality mode on the GT which would most likely put it behind the XL in performance in most cases.

Nah, it really doesn't have better image quality. That's just something ATI fans say.

Yeah, as long as you are in the Nvidia fan club and get those nifty Nvidia blinders that prevent you from seeing all the texture shimmering.

Yeah about that. I downloaded that "WOW shimmering gnome video clip" and it took me 10 minutes to finally see what the heck everyone was moaning about. All I have to say is, yougoddabekiddingmee. Laughable.

Key, what about shimmering? Doesn't that belong to image quality?

And it isn't just something that fans say. It is also published on technical magazines, such as PC Games Hardware (issue October 2005).

If I find the time on the next days, I will try to publish the results on a new thread.

That video was a poor example. I've posted links to much better examples in the past but I'm sure you've conveniently forgotten them.

Key, I play WoW at 1920x1200 and I can say it is much worse than the video shows. It could be that the video is compressed and it lost most of it.

It depends also a lot of the place you are in the game. I found the ground around Sepulcher to be the worst place.

You have to be on the Horde side to visit there. A Gnome would be killed there on sight....

For the Horde !!!!!!!!

Or maybe I have never seen them? Can you utter a single sentence without the friggin bitterness dude? I'm sorry, but, if thats all you have, then you have nothing.

See, the funny thing is, for the people that DO see it, if they simply adjusted their LOD Bias, they'd be fine, but that would require research, and a little bit of knowledge of drivers, technology, some technical terms, and just a slight bit of common sense. 😉

Don't worry keys, it's not your fault.

Ah, the decades old ATi fanboy argument about IQ when their beloved cards are beaten by the great nVidia.

I'm tired of all this BS about image quality. 7800's have excellent IQ and since IQ is highly SUBjective...

Answer this Morph ... if IQ is so terrible bad with the 7800 series, why hasn't everyone sold their 7800's?

Because they dont see it?!?!?!?!

I voted for the X1800XL because it was losing. If the 7800 were losing, I would have voted for that. Competition is good for your circulation.

I had both- I took back the X1800XL. The IQ was a bit better on the ATI, but the 7800GT runs a lot cooler (even after the new beta drivers that correct the X1800Xl temp) and was much smoother in FEAR for me- plus I already had a SLI motherboard and ended up going SLI. If ATI allowed Crossfire over Nvidia boards I may have changed my mind a bit. Both are great cards- if the price comes down on the ATI to 7800GT levels it is really a "toss up." You can't go wrong with either.

wow, rollo there is no way you can successful argue that TD rebates are reliable

i havent gotten a single rebate from them and i'm sure there are plenty on the same boat.

also, the dell ratings are irrelevant. Its like saying grand theft is ok because homocide is worse

My point CT was that people who are served well don't tend to seek out reseller ratings to post- who has time? I don't call McDonalds Corporate and say, "My 1/4 Pounder was flavorful and tasty today, and served promptly. Your employee was pleasant to deal with"

Similarly, I order from newegg at least monthly for home and business. I don't go to Reseller everytime they deliver as expected.

I don't doubt TD has rebate problems because some have had them. Doesn't change the fact the card is $70 cheaper w/o rebate, and you might get another $30 back. Actually I'd guess most people will get their $30 rebate, because they are undoubtedly selling 1000s of these, I would think screwing them all would equal class action suit and a web furor like never seen before.

LOL

I care about one thing and one thing only with this thread:

To correct the misrepresentation of the other thread, because the OP there would not after several people pointed them out. (think he has an underlying motive?)

If every single person in this thread votes for the X1800XL, it will not matter to me.

If every single person in this thread buys the X1800XL, it will not matter to me.

If every single person in this thread thinks the X1800XL is the better card, it will not matter to me.

I only want the facts presented accurately for those who come here to learn. I have nothing to gain or lose either way, so why should I care?

Well bringing up a product that has been out for a while, and now this particular price at the lowest ever seen for it and comparing that to a product just hitting the street which will automatically inflate the price. Remember products newly released typically carry a premium until the product has reached stocking levels and the price gouging starts to come down. AMD X2s anyone?

The Answer.

Wow, Creig, you think there is anyone on the planet who can't figure out that the price of most computer goods goes down as time passes?

What TGS posted had no relation at all to the question, so it can't be the answer.

Like I said, the reasons I posted this are:

1. Other poll mirepresented price of linked 7800GT by not including rebate

2. Other poll compared OEM to retail packaging

3. Other poll only considered pricing at the vendor X1800XL was cheapest at

4. Other poll didn't use the cheapest 7800GT at that vendor, but did use cheapest X1800XL

5. Other poll used a brand name that has negative connotations for some here

So tell me Creig, which of my five reasons is "Teh X1800XL is expensive because it was just launched!" the "answer" to? How does it relate at all to any of these five reasons I made this thread- I'm sure we're all interested to know why you thought it would be a good idea to pop in and say "Things are expensive at first!" and that this is "the answer"?

BTW- it's not nVidias fault ATI made you all wait for a 7800GT competitor. Are we supposed to assume the X1800XL will always cost more because that is the case?

Your "answer" only confirms the fact that the X1800XL is a really bad deal.

You already corrected the original thread inside of the thread, where it belongs. If you're worried that people reading that thread are being misled, then the best place to tell them is in the thread... which you did.

If every single person in this thread votes for the X1800XL, it will not matter to me.

If every single person in this thread buys the X1800XL, it will not matter to me.

If you don't care what people think about it, why did you create the new thread with a new poll? Methinks you care a little too much... to the point of obsession.

5. Other poll used a brand name that has negative connotations for some here

And 3DFusion (or whatever the heck that card is you are pushing) is a trusted brand name?
