SLI > CrossFire IMO, and I've used both.
It isn't really even an issue with the cards themselves, but the motherboards. The current selection of SLI motherboards is fantastic, and you will easily find a motherboard that meets your needs. On the otherhand, CrossFire motherboards are priced like mid range SLI boards, but have the features of low end boards. For the price of a top of the line dual gpu rig, I want it to be top of the line in every aspect. If you really want to get a sense of this, go to a retail store that sells motherboards, Fry's or MicroCenter have them on display, and you quickly begin to feel a little stupid for looking at the few poorly appopinted CrossFire boards with all those numerous SLI motherboard options right next to them. This was one of the things that struck me when shopping for a CrossFire motherboard, and one of the reasons I no longer have my CrossFire rig.
Performancewise, both high end SLI and CrossFire are incredible. It won't get any better until the next generation of cards or quad SLI, so that really isn't an issue.
Also, IMO, anyone running a $2k+ 30" monitor isn't allowed to discuss something making "money sense"... My rig is better than most, but your LCD was still more espensive than my entire setup, including the LCD.
