If Firaxis is developing in then it has a better than average chance of actually being great. I hope Sid Meier takes personal interest in this one.

yeah, I am really not holding my breath on this one. On balance i have much more faith in Xenonauts from Gold Hawk, which looks to be a true (spiritual) successor to the franchise.

Huh, that looks pretty cool. I'll have to check that out...

One thing Sid Meier's Firaxis studio has going against them with reviving old classics.... their new Railroad Tycoon sucked!!! The PopTop games made huge improvements over the original and then Firaxis dumbed the franchise down

Firaxis didn't make a Railroad Tycoon sequel. Sid Meier's Railroads was a completely new game, which is why it didn't carry the Tycoon name even though Firaxis could have named it as such. To be fair, it was actually very good when you considered what it was meant to be. A proper Railroad Tycoon sequel is still possible, but Firaxis only works on one or two games at a time so it's not likely at this time.

Hmm, yeah good point there. They really didn't call it a Tycoon did they... Ah well, I guess I expected it to be a proper tycoon game with rich details and then all I got was Railroads Lite so I was pretty disappointed.

I was just about to post this. I am hopefully optimistic that it could be fun. I am concerned about it being released as a Facebook, web based, free download or anything that makes it cheap.

Man, that game brings back memories. It was so much fun... The mood, sounds, music, mixed gameplay - it all fit great and together made for an awesome experience!

Plus I love power armors, lasers, plasma weapons and stuff in general :awe:

I am sooooo crossing my fingers for this one to be good!

Wouldn't surprise me though if the new XCom game gets released first.

Being developed for XBOX360, PS3, and PC.

What? Turnbased on console? While I wish it were popular, i cant imagine that being a success...

I'm mildly hopeful, but like Jagged Alliance 2 sequel attempts every project like this has fallen short so far :(

Luckily(?) my life has been consumed by Star Wars TOR so I don't need any other games for awhile.

This is what made it so fun! Randomly tossing grenades around trying to flush out the last alien or over shooting and blowing up a friendly.

Well, there is that. But the Gold Hawk people seem to have a handle on what the original was all about. Until I hear the same/similar from the new project, I am going to hold my vote (dollars). Show me the Carfax!

Not to mention the fact that "sooner" doesn't necessarily mean "better". Just ask anyone who bought DA2.

What amazed me was the sheer incompetance of the raw recruits that you get. I'm trying to figure out what rent-a-cop organization they were rejected from before they finally settled with XCOM. I just love it when they throw a grenade and it somehow manages to go twenty feet in the wrong direction, gratuituously blowing up the local filling station.

Or friendly fire... shooting your own troops in the back of the head... classic X-Com :)

Also, seems they joined the names of the US and EU release titles of the original game back in 1994. It was
- UFO : Enemy Unknown in EU
- X-COM : UFO Defense in US

The PSX release was called X-COM : Enemy Unknown though.

Fun fact of today ;)

I am guessing they got drawn from a pool of UFO nutts (have you seen some of them?) rather than local military.

And besides, who among us hasn't occasionally wanted to "Accidentally" blow up the local filling station? Particularly with the prices they charge for gas these days.
