Yes, that is why i said that those numbers are never achieved.

Oh well, whatever- it's all good.

<< If you don't think that in one year the XBox game library will not be filled with crappy DX ports, you are out of your mind. >>

That?s not what I said, or suggested, you did. There will be nothing wrong with porting to XBox if it?s the developer?s intent to support it 100%. I would expect the same goes for game developers such as Capcom, Acclaim etc. who have and will do the same for the PS2, and Nintendo as well as the developers who did it for DC. You are drawing an early negative opinion on what the games and the XBox will be like, which is completely stupid until you have tried it first hand! It may even perform better when ported to XBox.

<< It's bad enough that shoddy WinCE ports already pollute the DreamCast arena. >>

Sega?s OS being compatible with WinCE has nothing to do with the XBox or the games being developed for XBox that is a very poor example. In fact, that doesn?t even suggesting anything about the performance or quality.

<< I don't think I am being negative, just realistic. >>

Not all games ported to DC where crappy, in the real world, for the past 10 years not all games were a success. Even many games that weren?t ported were crappy, that's being realistic. You suggest it like it?s an XBox think, though crappy games were ported before XBox, including PC games.

Well if the gamecubes actual number is 6-12 million, then truly the PC is just as fast with the current Geforce2 GTS. Although the Geforce GTS would never hit 25 million polygons in a game, it can however hit over 8 million (in 640X480 clocked at defaut 200/333) Don't beleive me? Download the X-isle Engine. Download it here

Athlon 1.1 Ghz
Abit KT7-RAID
384 Megs of RAM
Creative Labs Anihalater 2 (GTS)
20.5 Gig HD
SB Live!

I can top over 8 million on that demo. (running at 640X480, which is what consoles are set at)

The demo is simply amazing and I hope CryTek gets this thing released soon! :)

ArchAngel777, thats interesting, a screenshot from Crytek Studios home page shows X-Isle with these results:

Benchmark Screenshot
*Polys/Sec 1,919,702
Best Polys/Sec 8,823,760

Now the top number is pretty low for Polys/Sec. The top number seems to be the average which would be the correct value to use when benchmarking a game. Unfortunately I do not know which graphics card the developers were using in the screenshots but I would assume at least a Geforce2 GTS. In that case the Geforce2 GTS is not up to the performance of the GameCube's sustained 6-12 million Polys/Sec performance.

Note that demo doesn't have much in the way of AI or FSAA. Two things that are likely to hurt performance. The GC numbers are said to be quoted with FSAA, advanced texture filtering, and 6+ texture passes enabled.

With every 2 texture passes, the polygons need retransformed on the GTS, cutting T&L performance in half. The GC can do 8 texture - single pass rendering (according to the latest rumours).

Interesting but one must note that they used a CELERON 500 Mmhz in those tests.. NOTE I had a 1.1 Ghz. I never ever went below 5 million. and my best is over 9 million. around 6-9 mil for my card. Is the GameCube released yet? No... then as far as I am concerned it does not exist.. and when will this Game Cube be out? uh... 8 - 12 months from now.. GFX cards really advance fast... I suspect will we be close to nv25 when the GameCube is released.. therefore I must conclude that the PC will still dominate over the GameCube. It will not be better than the X-box. But for sure better than Ps2 and gamecube. I prefer higher res than using FSAA at wimply 640X480... but hey thats just me! to each their own.

heh, guys, there's a REASON why nVIdia called the GTS the NV15. 15 million polygons at best. that was their theoretical number.

I don't know where you're getting 20 mil from..

ArchAngel777, I can't seem to find where it says they used a 500Mhz Celeron, please provide a link.

Soccerman, Nvidia was quoted as saying the Geforce2 GTS can do 25 million polygons per second, its not a lie its just not the whole truth. In benchmarks with flat shaded non textured polygons with a set size they were probably able to acheive 25 million polygon per second performance, its just they'll never acheive that in a game.

Uhhh... your a moron dude just leave this thread unless you know what you are talking about. The Geforce 2 GTS is rated at 25 million poly/sec, the ULTRA is rated at 31,000,000 polys/sec. The old Geforce 1 DDR was rated at 15 million polys/sec

You think nvXX (where X is the # of polygons) means that? God you are stupider than i thought.. how weird how the nv25 would be used in the X-box but claim 125 million... hmmm according to you that would be nv125! ok enough flaming you.

If KnightBreed is correct then it would be 6-12 million polygons per second along with all the features in the quote.

Yeah i know i am not simply saying the Geforce 2 GTS is faster than teh GC will be, but seriously... the only thing holding back Computer Games Vs console is the programmers.. :) The X-isle engine is even better looking than the Halo stuff i seen! IT will be really really cool when this game hits the shelves

The game they make from the X-Isle Engine probably will be cool, and thats what its all about, the games. Hardware is nothing without something to run on it besides benchmarks :).
