The 7900GT ko covers the ram from eVGA I know that some cover the ram but the stock cooler that is on the reference 7900gt design from nvidia employ the tiny copper cooler. The X1800XT was not overclocked but you asked me to prove that it was "pretty damn hot" and I thnk I did. Even the oc'd 7900gt's are using the tiny cooler.

How do you make hyperlinks? or those linky things without all that url lol I'm a n00b at that stuff.

The accellero's are S1 btw anyway it seems to have 5! heatpipes or atleast that's what the pic looks like.

But anyway what did I say that was totally wrong for you to say I was generalizing? I'm confused...

lol okay i am confused too...i was actually supporting your statement that you cannot extrapolate some general findings based on a limited sample size (scientific method). i thought you infered that the x1800xt can clock "pretty hot", or rather damn well lol...

evga is not the only vendor to utilize such a design (my asus has this also). nVidia placed provisions for different cooling hsf solutions in the reference pcba design, and left it to the vendor on the materials (copper/aluminum) and designs (passive, etc.) they want to utilize (for the pricepoints they were after). again this is evident in the dual footprint silkscreen (and screw mounting) prevelant in both the standard and OC versions of the 7900gt pcba.

Both can oc well. The reason I think the X1800XT would be the better choice is at stock the X1800XT is better by a decent margin. When oc'd though the 7900gt at 550mhz can match the performance of the X1800XT. Now the X1800XT only goes up something like 16% or something like that. The 7900gt can oc much more however. If I oc a 100mhz just to equal the performance of a stock X1800XT... YMMV therefore the faster base speed of the X1800XT is better as well. Also you aren't doing any hardware mods to oc therefore not voiding your warranty. Though I'm pretty sure over-volting will void your warranty either way. I simply happen to think the IQ and other features make it a better card.

well that's why i was curious and asked about citing your sources for the high overclocks...if i can get a x1800xt to overclock in performance to a x1900xt (what a well volt modded oc 7900gt would do), i might go that route instead ...but is this even possible? 😉

This thread is hilarious - we can't trust XBit because their reviews are "late" and because their tests are done in Moscow.

LOL!
