They have changed the remote that they offer, but still a good deal.
Firecracker

Update:

I just received my kit and they send the old (better) remote - the palm pad.

Enjoy

I had a few friends order them for me, then paid them the $5.90. The trick is to find a friend that will put it on their credit card for you, then not want to keep it for themselves. I full explained what it would do, and got several people at work to order one for me. I paid them on the spot and it worked great.

It seems to me that the page is for an old promotion. It says, "2,000 kits will be given away per day, (from midnight to midnight P.S.T.) from May 17-21, and the rest on May 24. Order today before we run out!"

Did you find this link using a search engine or following links?

Hmmm...this is weird. I'm not familiar with this X10 remote (digipad), but it says (C)1999 when searched on their webpage. Looks to be outdated, and I can't find anything on their site linking to it. Dunno if these are current or not.

This actually kinda sucks in one small way. When they stopped giving out the old fire cracker kit for free and started chargin 40 bucks, they never killed the oldl ink. So I searched for the old link with a web search and found it. X10 still honored the webpage even though it was very outdated and just blindly shipped us the free kits (didn't want to order too many for fear of killing the deal). 2 of my brothers got the same deal too, went on for a while. They have however replaced that link with an updated page that has this 'digipad' instead of the palmpad so that old deal is officially dead. This digipad thing is the same apparently as the keychain remote you get from RCA overstock page. These digipads by the by control 4 devices and are smaller then the credit card controllers. I've tested it at my hosue though and the credit card ones have MUCH longer range. Don't ask me why, but it definitely worked that way , to the tune of like 3 times the range. Hope digipad is better than slimfire for that.
The best way to make this a really hot deal is to sign up for the X10 newsletter. then you'll get a 20 dollar gift certificate once or twice a month. You can then buy 25 dollars worth of stuff, add the free firecracker, and get FREE shipping on all orders over 25 dollars. End result , Get the firecracker kit, PLUS 25 bucks worth of stuff for 5 or 6 dollars.

EDIT: Not trying to Thread crap here. This is a good deal always for $5.90.

urameatball,

If you get these things and decide you have no use for them, don't want them, or whatever let me know. I only ordered one because I figured that was the max they would allow. I would like to pick up a few more so that everyone in my family can have a remote. For security reasons. Thanks.

Jumby: Please be smart and don't kill the deal for the rest of us. I'd like to get one. Realize that they are MUCH more likely to ship one to you for free and honor it on a mistake than if you ordered 100.

anybody else notice you can't have the letters "spam" in your email address at hotmail?

Is x10.com still as sluggishly slow at shipping as they used to be? Last two orders I placed with them took weeks to ship.

I've never had a delivery take much more than a week to reach me...probably have placed over 20 orders.

X-10 has excessively fast shipping in my experience (2 orders from their online store). Both of my orders have been DELIVERED on the 2nd business day after I placed my online order. Both were shipped UPS Ground. I guess it all depends on how close you are to one of their warehouses.

hum... I placed an order: Entertainment Anywhere! last week on 2/20/01 and as of now, it's still not shipped since I haven't got a tracking number. I called them and they told me it'll ship today or tomorrow. Taking almost a week to ship.
