Alright, I bought something from Dell in November. I have a preferred account so they bill me, and I have 30 days to pay without any penalty. I received a bill and paid well within the time limit. I received no further notices saying I was late.
Yesterday, I get a phone call from a thickly accented guy saying I haven't paid, and now the payment is 8 days late, and there is a $30 late fee. If I make a payment over the phone they will waive the late fee. I decline.
I mailed out a check and the payment stub on 12/23/08. My bank has no record of the check being cashed. Lost in the mail? Lost at Dell? If I put a stop payment on the check it will cost me $30 also.
What would you do to remedy this situation? I don't want to pay $30 for something that was someone else's mess up.
