I don't believe that we have ever had the volume of illegal immigration that we do today. Also, the immigrants in the 1920's assimilated into the US, learning the language, customs, etc.. The ILLEGAL immigrants of today make no effort to become Americans, they want to bring their third world here, keep their language, etc.. Of course this does not apply to all of them, but from what I have seen here in Maryland, it applies to most.

If they assimilated then why are theere still china towns, and polish neighborhoods, and Italian neighborhoods, and Irish neighborhood in cities all over the US? Assimilation never happened.

I'll take it you haven't ever read the history behind Chinatowns, and how they came to exist. I'll give you a hint: If you look at old maps there were nice clean convenient lines drawn on them as to where the Chinese people should be. And no... the immigration issue today is very very much the same as it's always been. If you do a simple search for historical quotes involving immigration you will see the EXACT same arguments that you guys are using levied against the Germans (from people like Ben Franklin no less!), the Irish, the Italians, etc. There are very few people today who view the Irish, the Italians, and the Germans as separate, nonassimilated groups... even if you do.

Second and third generations of immigrants are the ones that assimilate because they don't have the same cultural anchor that their parents did. Same as today with the Mexicans. The Muslims in the U.S (6-7 million, 2-3 million religious) are peaceful with the general population for a reason. They have an education and/or were respectable enough back home to be able to convince immigration officials to enter this country.

Imagine if we had to bend rules because we were desperate.

Its called a legal work permit. A lot of those jobs the Mexicans now hold... American citizens used to hold. Roofers, framers, landscapers, etc. These aren't jobs "so dirty that Americans won't do." Illegals come in and violate all laws like living 10 families to a house, not buying auto insurance, getting free healthcare.. etc. They can afford to undercut American workers.

It will be a jolt to the economy if the businesses had to forgo profits and pay standard wages again. But it needs to be done.

I would welcome the Mexican workers if they came under a legal work permit, paid the taxes they were supposed to, and we actually know who they say they are.

I kinda skimmed throught this, but it got me thinking. My parents keep on pushing for me to be a leader and I really want to be one now. The fear that most people are talking about is the fear that has lived for a long time. So much stuff has happened during my relatively short lifespan that people have begun to think differently. It is up to our generation to stop the "hate" and reverse the flow of paranoia and fear that has penetrated the way of life all around the world. It is our generation that will inherit the world, so I should really start learning right? Plus, on this issue, the algorithms that they use would tend to become innacurate because it is impossible to be right on the mark, so they numbers could be smaller or bigger depending on the situation. I don't really care, as long as the money that my parents work for pays for someone (not necessarily an illegal immigrant) to sit around and deal drugs, shoot people, and corrupt the youth. It's going to take a while, but by viewing the comments expressed in this post, I can see that everything is changing.

Gee for a supposedly open, understnding person you sure seem to have issues.

As far as having "no idea" I probably know more about it then you do. I went "south" several summers on a corn combining crew for to the Bovina, TX and Clovis, NM area. They have a lot of irrigated vegtables in that area and I have seen first hand the conditions the illegals were willing to put up with in order to make a few American greenbacks. I disticntly remember the first morning, I was fueling up the truck early in the morning and there was a old (understament) motel that you wouldn't have ever dreamed even had a watertght roof. As I was waiting for the truck to get full some mexicans started coming out of a single room and they just kept coming and coming and coming. To fit that many people in a single room they must have been sleeping in the bathtub, under the bed, on their sides, who knows how they fit so many in there??

That was over 30 years ago. A year ago we had maybe a dozen people in our town of Mexican descent and of course they all spoke english, and were educated. We opened up a turkey plant a year ago and today we are swamped with mexicans. The catholic church even has a spanish mass now. All so you can buy your turkey meat a little cheaper.

Well, you can take you crys of "bigot" and shove them where the sun don't shine, because I think that despite your 'holier then thou" attitude, the only thing you REALLY care about is taking benifiting off their cheap labor.
