As of lately, with all of the geo-political changes that have occurred in the World post 9/11 has got me thinking about when and if the next big one will come along. I don't think necessarily tomorrow or not even next year, but possibly in the not so distant future. Maybe 5-10 years down the road? What I've seen as of lately is what I would refer to as nuclear politics. Who gets what nukes, when are they going to get them and for how much? IMHO, I believe some of the lines are being drawn now. Putin is certainly letting the old KGB?ish tricks out of the bag for the last year or so. Wanting to solidify political positions with a more polarized system after the terror attacks last year, supporting Iran?s nuclear ambitions and the whole mess in the Ukraine, well we know where he stood on that. Iran of course is planning out their course with nuclear ambitions and joining with Syria in their ?united front?. The Chinese continue to ramp up their military stock and as of lately have been at a bit of war of words of sorts with US policy. North Korea has the nukes according to the latest press releases and the reactors have been running hot since at least 2003 according to global security. I believe it was Einstein that said that he didn?t know what weapons the next world war would be fought with, but WW IV would be fought with sticks and stones. Pretty intuitive statement coming from one of the original masterminds behind nuclear physics. This next WW, and there will be one there is no doubt in my mind, may be just on the horizon. Just a little caveat, never have been much of one to read into things too much, but at this point too many signs are pointing in this direction. Thoughts and comments always welcomed.

WW III will happen when fearful countries of the world get enough nukes and sends them into the US via boat etc, and set them off at once. Of course we may have no one to attack since lifting prints and such off of vapor is tricky.

We'll take the fight to them "over there" instead of US soil. He won't be affected! ;)

I don't think its near...my guess is maybe in 200 or so years. I don't think any country will challange US ANYTIME soon. If it came to REAL war~ ie: total destruction, we would literally demolish and flatten ANYTHING with our technological advantages. Whoever is "2nd" in terms of military strength doesn't even touch the USA.

You do realize that the "flattening" and "total destruction" our "technological advantages" make possible will leave the entire planet unfit for human habitation, right?

That really makes me proud. Someone play the Star Spangled Banner and shoot off a few fireworks.

Yup. But when your goal is to absolutely destroy the enemy...we don't care about that.

Cheney and his bad ticker may not make it 4 more years, but in the mean time this evil son of unwed parents is certianly pushing the wooden headed fool in the oval office toward more wars.

Does anyone know much about Jeb Bush, is he as core stupid as his brother (did he spend 10 years killing brain cells with alcohol and drugs), is he a 'bonesman' as he is certianly being groomed for 2008.

Nothing's going to happen, you dorks. As China and the U.S. get ever deeper into a symbiotic relationship there's less and less reason to fight and more and more reason to cooperate. Ditto Russia and the U.S. Some small- and medium-scale terrorism (of the non-state sponsored variety) may occur, but that isn't going to trigger World War III.

Though this may be a surprise to the lot of you, you don't reach the pinnacle of power in a city as cynical as Washington because you're an idiot. Not to mention the gazillion checks and balances to impeach a president leading us all to suicide.

But you don't say why Democrats are out of office in all branches of government in spite of growing immigrant population. Its really embarrassing after the success the demicans had in the 90's that they have fallen so badly.

No one said it wasn't sick...but in TOTAL WAR...that is the ultimate goal~ essentially genocide as long as they continue to resist.

You do under no circumstances have that military potential, you might be able to kill everybody else, but under no circumstances would you be able to claim the places you want to without dying. Such is the ways of modern weapons.

Oh, and total war will never, and has never existed. Only in your sick mind.

My sick mind? Uh HELLLOOOO. I HATE WAR. To me war is a LAST resort, and even then I double check all solutions. But if we are looking at what war is, specially what WW3 should look like we have to look at it obejctively. Rather than do it the "Iraq Style" (no offense to those who have fought and bravely died) where we continue to live as we are, that is where you get everything put into the war effort. And yes, WW2 was a total war. That was affected EVERYONE, and both sides goal was the elimination of the other.

War is not something that excites and stimulates me like it does my friends~ I absolutely abhore war. But that doesn't mean we can't discuss the concept of war itself.

WWII started by Germany invading country after country.

We have invaded Afganistan, Iraq, saber rattling towards Iran, North Korea. DoH! there is a pattern here.

You don't declare WWIII, it builds from an agressive and corrupt goal to dominate many small countries. Remember Dumbya said he is going to "spread democracy" throughout the world

Conjecture loosely based on Biblical Prophecy:

Competition for Oil supplies reaches a critical Mass. China invades Middle East rolling over all opposition. US(maybe Allies) regroup/retreat to Israel in order to win the precious resource back. The 2 forces meet together in an epoch battle where both get slaughtered in a Nuclear exchange.

Oil will certainly be the most Strategic Economic reason for a WWIII, at least for another generation or 2. After that, hopefully, its' importance will decline to the point where War over it will no longer be an issue.
