Hand to hand is totally useless today and a big waste of time. IF a marine is in a fist fight with a Taliban today he screwed up bad.

It's a last-ditch thing. It's not a waste of time, as not much time is really spent on it. It's just enough to give you a better chance of staying alive if you end up in a really shitty situation.

For truly 'useless,' see soldiers being taught to box.

Really? So there's no way he could get surprised by someone hiding while clearing a building or something, and if he did, he screwed up? Um, no.

Marked for later.

Not sure what type of CQC training our military gets, but there's a damn good reason that Israeli's invented Krav Maga.

When you run out of ammunition and grenades, you need hand to hand fighting skills to continue to destroy your enemies. It's happened in WW1, It's happened in WW2, it happened in Korea, It Happened in Vietnam, It happened in Afghanistan It Happened in Iraq ...

Worth noting too that WWI combat techniques are not a fair comparison to modern warfare. There was a reason why the war was a virtual stalemate for so long. Old military tactics going up against a mechanized opponent. I suppose they assumed you needed intense CQC training for when you stormed an enemy trench to capture it. Assuming you didn't get mowed down by machine gun fire, or caught in barbed wire.

A knife or bayonet makes more sense for a soldier than breaking out the MMA skillz

Ninjas practice martial arts with swords and shit. Isn't using a knife or a bayonet standard martial arts stuff that would be covered by most soldiers MMA training?

Also, If I am wrong, knives and bayonets can get "stuck" or wedged. Say you put your bayonet through an enemy soldier, and it gets wedged between some bones or a rock or something. Then you use your knife, and it too gets stuck or wedged ... then you need to break out the hand to hand fighting.

You know, back in herp-a-derp, we use to herp-a-derp when herp-a-derp was with herp-a-derp.

But, you never quite herp-a-derp, when herp-a-derp herp-a-derped.... and that was just herp-a-derp!

People always use to herp-a-derp when herp-a-derp was herp-a-derp. And, herp-a-derp was never herp-a-derp.

Getting caught outside your group or surprising an enemy that is outside his happens.

Contrary to popular belief here a gun way up close is pretty easy to defend against, once that is done it's hand to hand.

A knife is a very dangerous weapon up close, but they can be disarmed to and you are then left with hand to hand.

Usually these will be fights to the death as the loser on the wrong turf probably isn't going to wake up the next day.

True, and their handgun/rifle, or vehicle first.

If you serve long enough in a war on the ground you will get into a fist fight with another soldier or civilian.

If you can't access your gun or knife, you better know how to fight with your hands.

And if you have no hands, with your elbows, knees, wrists, teeth, and your head.... really every part of your body. Like the "tis only a fleshwound" guy in Monty Python.

Bayonet training is separate from hand-to-hand. It is taught only as another form of 'armed' combat, used when solidly mounted to a rifle- which, even when devoid of ammo, is still a formidable close-quarters weapon.

A knife on its own...notsomuch. Give one guy the rifle and the other the bayonet, and my money is going to be on a buttstock knockout.

Are you truly that ignorant, or are you trolling?
Sounds to me like the typical keyboard/armchair Special Forces soldier that graces forums and YouTube comments with their expertise. "Well here's what I'd do/well here's how it should be done/Why didn't he XYZ" etc

I seem to recall him posting idiotic things in threads having to do with firearms and/or gun control, so maybe he'll pass it off as trolling, but I'm guessing he actually believes the stupidity he spouts.
