Should the rise of conflicts across the Middle East and Ukraine serve as a warning sign that something much more dangerous is approaching?

According to Jim Rickards, the CIA's Asymmetric Warfare Advisor, the answer is yes.

In a startling interview he reveals that all 16 U.S. Intelligence Agencies have begun to prepare for World War III.

Making matters worse, his colleagues believe it could begin within the next 6 months.

Tin foil or time to dig bunker and start hoarding canned goods?

Calling all ATOTers to form a p2p network so that we can keep neffing

Is this guy really "the CIA's Asymmetric Warfare Advisor" or is he an author who has consulted for the CIA?
Also, I'd like to see a direct quote of him saying what the article claims, with context. Sounds overdramatized.

Not that I care much. Belongs in P&N anyway.

News flash: The US Intelligence agencies are ALWAYS preparing for WWIII. It's how they justify their existence and their budgets. The moment they say something like "Everything looks quiet..." is when congress starts looking at maybe cutting back to only 12 intelligence services.

Frankly, if the military and security departments in the USA haven't been preparing for World War III since the day World War II ended, they're not doing their jobs. Preparing for potential threats is the entire reason they exist. They have contingency plans on file for war with any given nation; that doesn't mean we think Canada's suddenly going to invade. But the military would look like colossal fools if Canada did suddenly invade and the response was "we never even thought of that!"

Contingency plan for Canada invading:

1) Everyone stop laughing!!!
2) Launch a couple of planes.
3) Seriously guys, STOP LAUGHING!!
4) Mobilize the Boy Scouts and the people from one gun show in Texas.
5) Okay, okay, you can laugh.
6) Offer two cases of Molsons for unconditional surrender
7) Go home

i'm sure if WWIII started and some country invaded our homeland, people would get massive boners:

Imagine Ferguson + Baltimore all directed at an foreign enemy.

Seriously? Previous world wars were between countries of ridiculous economic power and military strength.

Is ANYTHING in the middle east comparable?

I mean, I can understand Russia, but if that's it I think Putin would be a little out-numbered....

Any sort of invasion on American soil has to consider we have over 6 million hunters. Hunting rifles are designed to drop a deer humanly with a single shot. Military weapons like assault rifles are designed to wound more than kill (each wounded person needs two more to care for them, transport etc, removes three from combat).

Debt issue, no its a plus. Push come to shove and the Chinese will protect there investment.

Nobody in the middle east has the military power to be a player in a world war. But the middle east as a whole is a very plausible cause of a world war, if not today then someday in the not too distant future. It's not hard to imagine a war being fought for oil and if the USA, Russia and China all need the dwindling reserves and more importantly, don't want the other guys to have it, what happens? One of the major powers invades Iran or Iraq or Kuwait or Saudi Arabia, another power intervenes, a third thinks they have to get involved or they'll get left out of the spoils and poof, world war.

*Red Dawn Scenario*

Police show up with assault vehicles trying to kill the commies faster than the 10.000 guys showing up with deer rifles rushing in to shoot them faster.

I eat breakfast at the local diner and Stan, an old-timer, said things are looking real bad right now. I'm inclined to believe him. Ain't never known Stan to be wrong 'bout much of anything.

I kinda agree with Stan.

My Grandfather had 5 Bronze Stars and he kinda said the same thing to me before he passed on a few years ago.

But I'm getting old and cranky myself.

Noting like a website that has a pop up when you try to close the window; adds to the credibility.
