Wuthering Heights

Inspired by this thread I wonder if I should read it? I've started and it's so fvcking boring I want to shoot myself. Cliffs?

no.

you should read tess of the durbeyvilles by thomas hardy. that will ensure that you actually go through the act.

I was supposed to read that for 12th grade english. I didn't. I couldn't even stomach the Cliffs. In fact, NOBODY in my class was able to complete either. We just told the teacher to "F-off."

What I thought, I can't even derive (sp?) meaning from the language used and I'm in an AP course :-/ Why is it considered such a classic? It blows.

Edit: Wing I have a feeling my class will be the same, bad enough the teacher is a closet homosexual.

It's considered a classic because the people who determine what becomes a classic and what doesn't become a classic are uppity bastards who get some form of sick pleasure from touting terrible books that nobody likes because it gives them a feeling of exclusivity.

I haven't read it yet, but if it's anything like "Great Expectations" I feel sorry for you.

I liked Great Expectations. It just got really wordy at times (aka about 1/3 of the time).

I actually like Great Expectations. I kinda just skimmed through the descriptions and finished the book in like 2 hours. The castle house was pretty cool.

Oh bother.

Didn't you just say in another thread "I see how people get to 10,000 posts now?" Hypocrisy for the win!

Yeup, I did. 🙂 That was before I realized how close I was to 400 posts.

As a college English major, I felt I had to say something to this one, but didn't feel like getting into the long, drawn-out argument that will eventually overwhelm me.

You're an english major? So you're going to become... An english teacher, or an english professor?

I like the story, but it was rather wordy. I found myself bored more than a few times, which rarely happens to me when i read.

Yeha I think I'll Cliff's it. I never get bored reading and language I rarely have trouble with, I can Clockwork Orange with no trouvle but this should be illegal.

I once dated a girl who told me that was her favorite book so I tried to read it, but I gave up at about 95 pages and then rented the movie with Lawrence Oliver but fell asleep through that as well.
