when they came out with catalyst 5.3, it screwed up my dell 2405fp. I had to go back to 5.2 for everything to work. they just came out with 5.4...you would think they fixed this problem!

nope, it's still messed up, and I had to go back to 5.2

Not to mention, when I uninstalled, it screwed my TV Wonder app, and now I can't watch TV on my comp :|

did anyone get the same thing?

Sounds like they should start bundling Acronis True Image with their cards.

It's too bad that ATI has been stumbling so much this last year with paper launches and the return of their old problem of inferior drivers, it's competition that drives prices down and performance up.

While we're on this subject - WTF is up with their new web site design? You have to accept session cookies, and you have to allow access to some HTTPS (port 443) links, and then it pops up a JavaScript warning that you will time-out in 10 minutes if you don't constantly click "OK", and then also dismiss the confirmation dialog that comes up directly afterwards. Why should I be limited to 10-minute intervals, on a web site???

Hmph. Clicking "OK" doesn't seem to fully clear the time-out either, as then clicking "back", gives you a screen that your session has timed out, so "back" is non-functional on ATI's site now.

ATI now ranks up there with CMD/SI's web site, as the most user-unfriendly one in existance.

I noticed that too when I searched their site for answers...which sucks! you know they're trying to force some kind of spyware on your machine...

not to mention that they won't give you a support contact number until you register your product online! :| what the crap is that? if I bought the d@mn product, I should get support....I can read the damn serial number off the card if you want, but don't make me register :|

Yeah, that's rather annoying too, I never "register" any of my products, no need to be put onto marketing/spam lists, thanks. But I can sort of understand from their POV, support humans cost money, and they don't want to be paying for support for non-BBA cards. But punching in a serial number off of a BBA card, to gain access to the page listing human support numbers, should be enough, I agree.

that's exactly what I thought...you have your little ATI setup going well, decides to come in my thread and gloat.....without really contributing to the subject.

in that case...YOU STFU and go away!

many people have had problems with ATI drivers lately...I'm just stating the obvious!

:p

yes, I caved in, registered, and emailed tech support....

I doubt they'll help. I believe I had this same problem some time ago and emailed the same thing, without getting a response.

ive never had a problem with ATi drivers...despite the fact that by the time ive installed new ones they release more newer ones!

but having said that i havent actually used an official ATi driver bar the one that came with my card, ive always waited on Mr Omega to provide his drivers for my 9500pro and im still using them now, no reason to even go to Ati.com

Man there's a lot of love in here today. You can just feel the sweat condensing on the walls getting ready to drip into your pci slots shorting them into digital oblivion with their brackish taint.

Anyways, I have no quarrels with ATi. I have a MR9800 on this notebook and I use any Cats I want with Mobility Modder. I can't break this thing if I tried. Well I could drop it down a ladder but you get the idea. :p

I had to go back to 5.2 for everything to work.

WTH did you install new drivers for in the first place? I bought a 9800 Pro two Decembers ago and installed the 3.10s. They never gave me a problem, so I never changed drivers. I got a new hard drive a few months ago and when I reinstalled everything, I went with the latest drivers: 4.12. No problems. What's the point to changing drivers if everything works? Supposedly there was a performance boost from going from 3.10 to 4.12, but I sure as heck don't see it.

I've never had trouble with ATI drivers (but my first ATI card was the 9800 Pro). nVidia's drivers haven't worked very well since the FX series. I've tried some of the newer drivers on my GF2/3/4's, and I keep reverting to the 45.23's since they run better

there are two main reasons to update your drivers (imo);

One is "practical" - when a new game comes out that doesn't work well with your current drivers and (2) if you just like the "latest" and wanna see how 3DMark0X scores.

If you are using ATI drivers, you should already know they are not "easy" like nVidia drivers . . . you actually have to uninstall the old ones. :p

and nothing is wrong with ATI

you're right! I shouldn't have installed the new drivers.....if it ain't broke don't fix it.

so yes, I got greedy and wanted a little more performance, the end result due to piss poor drivers and programming, is that my TV wonder pro is now broke and I have no way to fix it.

I searched all over and people have said to go back to MMC 8.8...but it did not do a darn thing for me. It has been documented by many others before me that ATI MMC software sucks, this is a fact and I'm just trying to fix what ATI can't. If they were as good as everyone said, why can't their new software remove the old ones?

Also, every Dell 2405fp owner has had this problem upgrading from cat 5.2 to 5.3 or 5.4. You would thing ATI gets complaints for 5.3s and solved the problem in 5.4? Either that or they just don't care?
