i just got a brand new dell computer at work. i turn it on for the very first time, and before it even loads up my desktop it crashes to a blue screen. awesome.

edit: i love how the "Problem Event Name" is "BlueScreen" 😀

Curious, big firm or small (not expecting a lot of corporate Vista adoption quite yet so curious). Did the problem return on reboot or was it a one time thing. Did you run memtest (etc) to see if the box appears stable?

small. very small. *i* did the ordering. got vista because i couldn't get a link to a windows xp config of the same system with the dell deals last week. problem was a one time thing. i might run some tests later if it appears unstable.

I had ran many applications on it and it never give me any problem except that one time during the initial set up.
 
So A64 X2 4400 RevG 65nn + MS Vista Ultimate + ASUS M2A-VM (690g) + McAfee 1 year subscription + Windows Live CD = $294 good deal?
 
using vista ultimate x86 with no problems..............................except for the fact that it doesnt recognize my firewire port (using a pci slot header via my asus a8n32-sli deluxe) at all.

other than that, its completely stable and smooth, just like xp.
 
Did people hate Windows XP this much when it was new? I remember liking Windows 2000 better when XP came out, but I didn't see mass hatred toward the OS like I see for Vista. It's like Windows ME all over again!
 
I hate Vista... it came with my Inspiron e1405....
I have it booting XP, Ubuntu, and Vista now. I prefer Ubuntu and XP. Vista is too slow and buggy.

My dad was looking for a new computer, so I picked one from Dell's website, and told him to make sure he orders it with XP, not Vista!

Yep, I think so.... Honestly, I can't recommend it to anyone. I guess it might be OK if you only browse the internet and run Office, but for real applications it's no good.

So far I've installed Vista Ultimate on some business class HPs, a couple of my home machines, even on the same HP business class workstation running XP Pro with 1 GB memory under both MS Virtual PC 2007 and VMWare. In all cases it has installed and run with no problem albeit a bit clunky virtualized because the workstation doesn't have enough memory to really get it running well.

They just like the bandwagon. There actually isn't any proof that this was even an OS issue (vs bad memory, something shaken in shippping, etc). I don't think ElFenix was trying to make that point, from his point of view (and I get it) it was funny brand new out of box PC and boom, bluescreen. Doesn't really give you a lot of confidence 🙂
