You guys act like other OS's never lock up. I never used an OS that didn't crash on me atleast once.

They just like the bandwagon. There actually isn't any proof that this was even an OS issue (vs bad memory, something shaken in shippping, etc). I don't think ElFenix was trying to make that point, from his point of view (and I get it) it was funny brand new out of box PC and boom, bluescreen. Doesn't really give you a lot of confidence 🙂
i blame vista because it was my very first experience with it 😀

to be honest, i'm tempted to put win2k on it. it runs a little slow on this config (X2 3600+ but only 1 GB of ram [i don't use windows mail, so why is it sucking down my memory?]). and that security thing is going to get annoying really quickly.

i have vista on 2 of my 3 machines and my XP locks up more than the vista does. I think people just like to hate stuff.

ive never had a problem with vista until i tried to put xp on the laptop... then went on a journey to find drivers for the vista hardware.

The same people bashing vista are the same ppl who bashed XP and are using it right now.

I think its doing quite well for its initial release. It hid a lot of the "experienced user" stuff hidden away deeper and give warning screens when u go to them. Working in the IT field I hear more problems with XP than Vista (given the ratio). Its done away with a lot of the OS related issues and placed it more on really really computer illiterate "it said i get a free ipod" customers.

As far as deploying vista in a workplace? umm not yet the hardware end hasnt caught up yet by far. I give it about 1½ years before it starts spreading more and more.

My granddad just got a new Dell. First thing I did was do a clean install of Vista. Worked great after the reinstall. I haven't seen a bluescreen in Vista that wasn't caused by a bad driver. Easily fixable.

Vista...the ME of the 2000s?

Yep, I think so....

No, not really. Vista's beta was more stable and usable then WinME's final release. I've had ME crash hard during post-install processes (that point where it extolls all the "virtues" of the new os) on hardware that ran Win2k flawlessly.

I hate Vista... it came with my Inspiron e1405....
I have it booting XP, Ubuntu, and Vista now. I prefer Ubuntu and XP. Vista is too slow and buggy.

Vista...the ME of the 2000s?

A lot of people were saying it was the new Windows ME. Glad I didn't purchase it yet.

I too just got a new Dell laptop, E1705, which came with Vista. So far I haven't had any problems, except for just trying to figure out where things are in Vista. I managed to skip that entire Windows XP thing and go from 2000 to Vista and again so far it has been pretty good.

yeah. when XP came out there was a lot of negitive news on it. such as there is with Vista.

Saying that i sure won't switch for about another year or two. XP is fine now and No reason go with a suspect System

Vista works fine, it's a bit of a memory hog but with the price of RAM these days it doesn't really matter. People just like to bitch and moan about any new MS product.

Yeah... I remember disliking Windows XP when it first came out, but then liking it more a year later when SP1 fixed a lot of the bugs and computers got fast enough to run it properly. I started hating XP again once SP2 came out, though, since that's when Microsoft started adding all those "You're trying use your computer for something useful... Cancel or Allow?" type confirmation messages.

You know, you can turn off DEP. It's useless anyway.

I had XP since it was still the Whistler Beta, and it kicked ass. Vista, on the other hand, I couldn't stand in beta, RC, or release. Shouldn't be sluggish on an 4200+ X2 with 2 GB RAM, and the UI jump is way bigger than 2000->XP was.

I've had zero problems with Vista on a computer I built from newegg. In my experience, problems are usually due to the people using the computer. For those having problems with Dell, maybe it's Dell's problem and not Vista's?

Why do you just assume that Vista is to blame? Now all of a sudden, every single problem that anyone has is blamed on Vista. In reality, you probably have a hardware problem.

More misinformation from the folks who aren't in any position to make a recommendation. Case in point. Do you even know what DEP is? Clearly not. Based on the thread you're refering to UAC (and, btw, it's not useless it's actually VERY usefull).

Of course, you here something from a friend and repeat it like it's a fact. If you don't know the differnce between UAC and DEP you have no business giving advise on it to others.

Vista is only the second OS (other than Millennium edition) that I refuse to support or allow on any network I'm involved in (work or private). I imagine by the time they get to their first major service pack most of the little crap will be solved, but even then I doubt if I'll allow it. Just not acceptable to me.

Sure it's not the Dell part of the computer that sucks and not Vista? I've got Vista running perfectly on my computer, but we have Dells at work and every single one of them is riddled with problems.

Any chance you'd be willing to mention the actual whys, e.g. what you find wrong with it. Your experience is much different from those actually running it and I'm curious if your decision is based on 'experts' like others in this thread or you tried it and had bad experiences. You call it 'crap' but don't really state what you consider the 'crap' to be.

i've been running 64 ultimate for a month and a half with no crashes and no problems with the exception that my sound card currently is not and will never be supported.
I would guess 35 percent of the haters in this thread have never touched vista. Saying it is ME 2.0 is absolutely unfounded and ridiculous.
I have had no trouble with games, sound in games, video playback.
