I think we need more info: type of motherboard, sound card, what updates you installed, etc. I would always avoid driver updates from Microsoft, but maybe that's just me. I think if you go get the latest drivers from the sound card company and installed it you'd be fine again.

Did this, and even ran it through the turtle beach configuration test.

Passed all tests, but still no sound

Same here. Don't ever install the sound update for the A7N8X from Microsoft. I had to revert to a previous backup in order to get my sound working again.

Have you tried overriding the sound driver from the A7N8X CD?

Will taking out the card, uninstalling drivers, and putting the card back in help at all?

Maybe, but what I'm saying is that since you installed that update from Windows, the onboard sound is taking control of your sound. Try plugging in your speakers to the onboard sound and see if that works.

You'll need to uninstall the onboard A7N8X sound driver and reinstall the older one, then possibly reinstall the Turtle Beach sound card driver.

This definitely sounds like the way to go. I'll bet that's what happened.

Ahh! Excatly what happened.

If I disable the onboard sound in BIOS, will that fix?

Also, which is better ? this mobo's onboard sound or my Turtle Beach Santa Cruz?

You might trying to disable the onboard sound in the BIOS.

And I would still try the Turtle Beach for the sound. The onboard sound is nice, but I've always found it better to have a sound card take care of things.
