WTF? Weird Co-worker

SmoochyTX

Lifer
So I pull in to work this morning and I'm sitting in my car waiting for this radio skit to finish when one of my more weirder co-workers comes out of the building and starts walking towards my car. I had no idea what she wanted and rolled the window down. She handed me a $40 Macy's gift card and told me that God told her to give it to me. I told her I couldn't take it and that she should give it to somebody else that really needs it but she wouldn't have any of that. She said that because God told her to do this then she had to give it to me. So I thanked her and she walked away.

Besides her super-religiousness, she's OK most of the time. However, she did give me a $20 Starbucks gift card a couple of months ago for me helping her out with something at work.

If she's all into God then that's fine with me -- I don't care. But I really didn't appreciate that this morning. And before anybody says it, I'm not going to our supervisor and saying anything because I don't want to get things stirred up.

So ATOT, how would you have handled it?

Accepted it graciously. You know how this woman acts, so this should have been no surprise to you. Though, I would have been pissed if it was a Macy's gift card. There is nothing good for me to purchase in Macy's.

I would have declined as you did and if she insisted, like she did, then I would have just taken it to shut her up, like you did.

Will it kill you to accept something that'll make someone feel better? Accept it graciously, give it to someone else if you don't want it - someone who needs it

I would have done exactly as you did, and try to use it to find something to share at work... dunno exactly what Macy's has that could qualify, but maybe like... a toaster for the breakroom that has slots big enough for bagels or something to that effect.

I would have told her that God told me this would happen and said that he told me to deny the offering, that you would know what that would mean and the trial would be complete. He also said you are a shining star of crazy.

Wait... you're insulted because a religious person handed you $40 out of the goodness of her heart?

Where in any of that did I say I was insulted? I said I didn't appreciate it (meaning how she did it but I didn't make that especially clear in the OP). Regardless, I graciously accepted it and that's it. I was so nice I didn't even make devil horns at her when she was walking away. 😛

I would basically do what you did, try to turn it down, but would just accept it in the end and thank her. Its just easier, and who knows, maybe God did want you to have the card. No reason to upset the big Guy, just in case.

Absolutely. Otherwise HE will smote you to the dirty ground.

Jesus christ, you acted like she came over and kicked your dog. She's very religious, and believes her god told her to do something nice for you....so what? Radical Islamists are blowing people up by the hundreds, and your offended because a fundamentalist Christian gave you a gift? Grow the fuck up.
