1) I've had UPS deliver to the wrong house twice in 2 days, on accident. I used to trust all of the companies the same but UPS has dropped a few notches lately.
2) For an expensive item, you should've requested they keep it at the hub knowing you're not home most of the day. You should've done this when you found out the expected delivery date via tracking number. Call UPS and tell them "hold for pickup". It works.
3) Don't buy expensive/heavy items to be shipped. ;)

2) My roommate was supposed to pick it up, but he was passed out when the UPS guy came and the knocking didn't wake him up.
3) Find me a local place that will sell me a 37" 1080P Samsung LCD for $620 after cashback.

Then a new TV isn't the only thing you need. Get new friends!

That was my exact thought... :Q

Is that expensive or something?

I'm not familiar with HDTVs. Also, it depends on the quality of the panel itself. Cheaper HDTV LCDs have TN-6 bits I think.

have them deliver it somewhere you expect to be at the time. Problem solved.

well, that sucks.

But you can always request they keep it at hub, or deliver to local package store so you cna pick it up yourself.

and yeah....$900 for 37" 1080p? ...you consider this a deal?

That's when retired parents really come in handy. So long as they live close enough to easily pick your stuff up later.

For all the bitching in this thread, I have yet to see ONE person who can find me a NEW(not refurbished, used, or open box) 37" 1080P TV for less than 620. Newegg's prices on 1080P TVs are like $250+ more than what I paid, and the 720P TVs aren't that much cheaper either.

And yes, it's currently hooked up to a HTPC and we routinely use it for web browsing, movies, and video games. With the exception of movies, all those tasks show a noticeable difference between 720p and 1080p.

How can UPS get away with this when the item was specially shipped with a signature confirmation required? Thankfully my neighbors turned out to be ethical people, but the TV just as easily could have gone missing or been damaged at a different neighbor's house.

Cliffs:
UPS Sucks

They are not supposed to do this. It is against the rules.
Report the driver. No telling how many other things he decides to leave at neighbors because he is lazy.

The driver should have left a tag on the door that he tried to deliver and you would need to call them for a proper delivery/pickup.

You need to read UPS and FedEx's terms. Leaving packages with neighbors with signature required is acceptable. Direct signature is where someone at the delivery address must sign for it.

It is not allowed unless it is the second attempt at delivery and you have noted on the first days info notice that a neighbor delivery is ok. Even then it is not allowed if the original shipper requires the addressee's signature confirmation.
