This is a much more purpose built implementation:

It is used for door breaching and room clearing.

But the barrel is too short for civilian use, unless you want to pay the extra tax and get a license for a short barreled shotgun.

I'm not sure about those rules and I don't think I'd trust Wiki, but the nearest FFL holder should be able to tell you.

Also don't trust just any FFL, you'd surprised at the amount of incompetence out there. Find a Class 3 FFL, they know what they are talking about when it comes to Class 3 items. (SBR's, SBS's, AOW's, etc.)

True that AOWs are a $5 stamp, but once you attach it to the rifle it no longer qualifies as an AOW and must go back on a Form 4 and $200.

only 3 rounds? so what exactly is the point of these? what role are they manufactured for? or are they just a fun toy?

Not sure I can really think where carrying this with it's bulk and low capacity over a handgun with less bulk and more capacity would be better?

It's for special door breaching shotshells. As noted, it's a specific, narrow application, not something many folks have.

Think SWAT units that need to breach a door to gain entry to a building. Rather than carry two guns, it's a mix.
