WTF? [Riding] Lawn mower trouble

Great. You have the engine that has tons of parts on National Backorder. Great. The starter should be fine tho. I will look it up when I go to work on monday. I will LYK the cheapest place to order from in the country.

Owner's Manual - 274796

Illustrated Parts List MS0635

It says you can get the Repair Manual - 271172 in quite a few local service centers, as well as online.

Bah, those links won't work. You'll have to register there and plug in the info.

HD sells the repair manual as well for $9.99. But the starter is only 4 bolts, and a power connection. Can't really screw it up. Just take it off, swap out the gear, and you are good to go.

I've got PDF manuals of as many of my tools and appliances as I can get my hands on. I LOVE that. Sometimes easier to find than the printed copies I have in my files.

Hmm? Most small engine starters I've seen only use the solenoid to kick on the starter motor, the gear rides on a spiral spline on the starter motor shaft. When the starter motor spins, inertia sends the starter gear up the spiral to engage the flywheel gear.

when the battery doesn't have enough juice, the solenoid rapidly clicks on and off (rattling) and the engine will turn very slowly or not at all....

I came up with the same parts. I found the 693059 online at sears. (sears part 71.500.693059 for $4.25 picked up from a service center) 495877 was $17.80

Sorry took so long to post. I posted this earlier tot his thread at about 6:00 but it seems to have dissapeared *shrug*

OK, got the part and have the engine all apart. Question is, how do i get the gear off? Theres a top peice holding it on, and I have no idea how to get it off...

exact same thing happened to my riding lawn mower... it's a briggs and stratton motor... maybe you have the same issue

Thanks, actually we have the problem all figured out, and I got the new part. Just can't figure out how to get the starter gear off.
