I just got my DC today and it wont read any of my burned games or the bootcd. My brother also burned them with different media and a different burner and they werent read by the DC. It was made in Novemeber 2000. I had a dreamcast back in the summer before my brother broke it and it didnt have a problem with burned games. Anyone have any information on this? Thanks

Have you tried them on a different dreamcast? If they work on a different DC, take yours back and go get a used one and check the date on it.

Probably new piracy protection from Sega...

If these are legitimate backups of games you actually own, then that would suck and I hope you find a way around it. (and don't bother reading the rest of this post) :)

If these are burned copies, don't expect much piracy help here :|
(Software pirates would have fewer problems if they tried buying instead of stealing)

Just take it back and get a used one at EB, and pay the extra $10 to get a one year extended warranty on it.

Amazon is pretty easy to return to, wait until after Christmas though & avoid those hideous lines at the PO.

Did you try the "boot disc" (really a CD that you have to run once)?

I THINK some DCs regardless of manufacture date need it to use "back ups."

My games are self bootable but I also tried the bootdisk and it couldent read that. I guess I could do that swap trick but its not really right.

he said it wouldnt read the back ups

i know you can load the boot disc ad put in a real game and it should work, but like a boot disc and a self booting disc afterwards wont work.

And running backup games is ok?

Do you have a ton of problems with unusable discs? I've had a playstation and currently have a Dreamcast. I've never had a problem with a CD on either platform. I've only had ONE on the PC, and that was caused by poor treatment of the CD itself (my fault).

Don't you have the original discs? Play them instead.

If you don't have the originals, you shouldn't have backups. Period.

So really, you don't have a problem. Right? :D

Not to point, but I've never met anyone who "backs up" games they own - not since the good old floppy days.

Although strangely I've found a lot of people claim that they are only backing up games they own to be able to discuss it in unlocked threads. Upon pressing, it always turned out that they were pirated burns.

Hope that ain't the case here.

Fdiskboy - yes, I've never lost a game on my PS1, DC, or PS2... and I have a 1 1/2 year old daughter that loves to scratch CDs up by playing with them...

Doomguy - do all your originals work ok?

I've made backups of a few items (MSVC++ 5 Pro) after a CD case (yes, the thing I paid money for to protect them) scratched them beyond use. I copy another person's disk and always keep the original as proof of ownership.

My originals work fine. I wanted to test backups because I plan on giving copies to some of my friends and it will be a pain if I cant test them to see if I burned them properly.

beat mania: I don't think they did anything about pirating. The new DC JAP units dont let cdr's work but the american DC should still allow backups to be used.

Oh - OK. I thought you were just using pirated software, but it turns out that you are actually doing the pirating.

Well, thats OK then, isn't it?

The info only copying the GB-ROM hasent been released so you have to download files from a crew that released them.

yo man I'd consider changing your earlier post where you say you're going to distribute the games to your friends. If you've got your ip masked and an untraceable email address I guess you shouldn't worry, but there are a lot of people around here who frown heavily upon this type of talk(including the mods) and you basically just admitted that you will be participating in software piracy. Atleast make a believable lie and say you want to use the mp3 player and burn mp3 cds for your friends or something, but openly admitting that isn't the smartest thing in the world. Especially since Sega is on it's quest to end piracy. I don't know, just a thought.

No, I don't use Napster.

And stonythug is right - this may even get locked by the mods...
