I would say for the most part it's true and I've done it as recently as tomorrow (I'm driving 30 total mins in the opposite direction of where I'm going to pick her up and then go to work) but I've also helped others as well.

This question has already been addressed by Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Corolla on an episode of the man show. I wish I could find a clip of it, but they send one girl out on the streets and she's able to get random strangers to do all sorts of ridiculous things. However, when they send Kimmel out on the streets in drag to accomplish the same things, men and women ignore/run away from him.
It was a classic and very informative moment in social science.

its a nature/gender/sex documentary favorite, sometimes news magazines also do this hidden video thing where they show the difference between a man and a pretty woman asking for help from strangers.. either for broken down cars or for donations for charity..the pretty girl always wins hands down.

other ones where they send a guy or a girl on a university campus and offer sex who strangers...you can guess the results. 3 outa 4 guys say yea ok like its their lucky day. all the women refuse
