WTF is wrong with people

I normally wouldn't make a thread about this but the sheer idiocy of it completely took me by surprise. Anyways, I was driving back from the university after finishing my few classes for Friday. So I'm coming back into my town (Endwell) and the main road that runs through it is Hooper Rd. There's also another road that runs perpindicular to it (Country Club Rd) and they intersect right in the center of the town. As most intersections have, theres another lane you can get into to turn left, and in this case it would be to make a left onto Country Club from the way Im coming.

So, Im about a 1000 feet or so from the intersection and there's this white Taurus (02' or 03') that's been riding my bumper (even though I was going at least 5 over) since I got off at the Endwell exit from 17C. I don't think much about it since people are like that and it usually doesn't irk me. So as Im traveling down the road I look in my rear view and she all of a sudden just starts getting close, and I thought she was just gonna rear end me or somethin. Instead, she cuts way over into the oncoming lane with a double yellow line still present and continues riding the line until the left turn lane begins about 300ft later.

The funny part about all this was that while the lights were green, I was going straight and was able to just go through the intersection. Her on the other hand, had to wait for the oncoming traffic to go by before she could turn and Im pretty sure the light changed to red before she could make it.

I hope that b!tch (it was a middle aged woman, go figure) DIAF, all for just trying to save a few seconds but in the process putting many other people at risk.:disgust:

Cliffs:
1. Double yellow lines are there for a reason

lol. Good rant.

OTOH, I can think of plenty of places that double yellow lines are unnecesary and I have simply ignored them....

Some people are so uptight while driving, a lot of people act like they NEVER make mistakes while driving

Yep...especially since I ride a really fast motorcycle. DOT is really conservative with their passing zones....theyre set for a 1957 Buick loaded with a family of 5 in the rain.

But there's a difference between a) not fully stopping at a stop sign or speeding 5 mph over and b) driving into oncoming traffic.

Meh.. I was behind a car that almost got into an accident yesterday AND nearly got into one myself a couple hours later.

First incident... its a 2 lane road and theres a right lane exit to the highway. I'm in the right lane, in front of me are two cars with about as much road between them as you normally give someone in traffic (read, maybe 5-6 feet). They pass the exit lane (you know, that nice 3rd lane that starts somewhere before the exit and slopes down into the highway), when all of a sudden a car in the LEFT lane pulls a nearly 90 degree turn BETWEEN the two cars straight into the exit.

Couple hours later, i'm driving through an intersection reletively fast (55mph, 10 over for that area), and since its a 4 way intersection theres a little thing for the cars perpendicular to the road i'm on to merge right onto the road I was traveling. So i'm coming up to this intersection (again, 55mph), see this white car sort of edge up to the line and stop, look over. Then as i'm IN THE FRIGGIN INTERSECTION he slowly, SLOWLY merges into my lane. Like half the car at first, then some more. I hit the brakes so hard I felt the ABS kick in and the front of my car was about less than a foot from his side windows (perpendicular to his car almost). Guy was still oblivious, and stopped in that position for a bit, looked around like he was still checking if the road behind me was clear (it was), as if I hadn't come | | close to driving into his body, and then slowly merged into my lane.

Happened so fast I couldn't even lean on the horn.

I promise to be the first person laughing when either of you gets smeared someday.

Seriously, if everyone who ignored double yellow line passing zones encountered an unexpected semi the roads would be so much nicer to drive on.

Yes, I know I'm being a bastard, but I firmly believe that stupidity should be painful, or better yet, deadly.

I hate it too when people are willing to put themselves and others at risk just for the chance of saving a few seconds.

Car: Big, metal, heavy
Human: Little, squishy, fragile

It's not a good idea to treat cars like toys.

Nothing like a tractor trailer to screw up your day. They can't stop quick, they can't accelerate quick, and they can't turn quick. I never mess around with one of them. Even pulling out of one that's just starting to accelerate might not be good - if it happens to be empty, it can pick up speed a lot faster than you might expect.

Mistakes are one thing.

Driving in the left most lane doing the speed limit and holding everyone up is not a mistake. It's having poor driving etiquette. People merging right in front of you without a turn signal is not a mistake, it's being a habitual aggresive and careless driver.

I can't believe it when drivers pull crap like that. If you missed the exit, then catch the next one! :|

I would consider that a step up from a mistake.

There, I made it better much earlier, but just thought I would get it out there to appease you.

Ooh, you were going 5 over. I hate people like you. Either go faster, or slow down so I can pass you easier.

QFT. I know I've made some mistakes and stupid moves while driving, but it amazes me to see some of the stunts people love to pull on the freeways around here.

And I hate hate hate hate hate to find a pair of cars in the HOV and the Fast lane (the 2 left most on the interstates in Metro Pheonix area) going 65mph, while traffic piles up behind them. Neither will move over, there's plenty of room infront of them, but they just keep on poking where they don't belong.

I don't know if you've checked a radar lately but we had the equivalent of a monsoon today so I wasn't gonna go play 'lets see what I can hydroplane into today'.

A guy cut me off, but gained no distance at all. He thought that I was driving slow, but the car in front of me was slow. Well, i high-beamed him (a quick flash in the daytime, nothing that would have blinded him), letting him know that he is being a moron. The right lane cleared up, and I just went there because I like being at least 3 car distances behind people when I'm going 50mph (there was a bit of traffic, not bad though). The guy looks over at me and starts cussing, with his window up, i didn't hear anything.

At this moment, I realized that by retaliating, I would be really immature so I just left it. This guy tries to catch up with me and starts cussing at me again, with his window up!

I ignored him as he found a faster lane and sped away. 5 mins later, I see him cussing out another guy, this time with his window down. He was so into cussing at the other guy that he swerved into my lane a little a couple of times. When he finally exited, he didn't gain much distance off of me from when he initially cut me off, so it was a good feeling to know that his speeding and putting others in danger didn't get him anywhere.

In Texas, the yellow line means nothing. It is like the yellow light, which means speed up in texas instead of preparing to stop. After driving in texas for 10 years, i dont miss it....dumbass people.

I have no idea how the two previous posters drive/ride, but you can't automatically assume they're stupid. I've been on plenty of roads that have a straight, flat section, with good visibility, and it's a no-passing zone. It would be perfectly safe to pass there, especially if you ride a bike and can get around the car in front of you in no time flat.

Don't make assumptions if you have no justification for them.

That said, one amusing thing that happened to me a couple days ago was turning left onto the Fremont bridge at night. There's ONE lane each way, because of construction, and consequently ONE turn lane. The lady to my right seems to think that she's in a turn lane, and I'm getting ready in case she tries to cut into my lane when she realizes that I'm turning onto the bridge and she's turning onto the sidewalk.

Well, she doesn't. The light turns green, we both turn, she goes right up the sidewalk and is cruising along next to me, right next to the rail, with streetlights passing between us. Thankfully there were no bikers or pedestrians crossing the bridge at that time...finally she stopped and realized what she was doing. It was kind of amusing, really.
