I always thought that strict liability law kicks in for this. Meaning even if an underage girl shows u a fake ID saying she's over 18 and it later turns out the ID id fake; you are still liable for sleeping with a minor.

Pretty big difference between a 14 year old and a 12 year old
Way too many fundamentalist christian attitudes here. A 14 year old could be a sophmore in high school and an 18 year old a senior.
Pretty fucking normal.
I think you have it backwards. It's the modern big government nany-state feminists who have raised the age of consent, and young women are considered the victims of consensual sex.
Old fashioned religious societies use to have a much lower age of consent. Teenage girls were considered responsible for their own actions.
Again, it depends on the jurisdiction. A number of states have "close in age" exceptions that will cover a 4 year range, so this scenario would be perfectly legal.I always thought that strict liability law kicks in for this. While relevant (possible neglect charges on the parents if extreme) this would be a moot point in a case against the teenage boy.How do you NOT know your 12 y/o is "dating" and spending time alone with a teenage boy?
That kind of neglect on the part of her parents would certainly not look good in front of a jury.
It's not their choice, but it's their responsibility. FWIW, I think laws regarding "close in age" are far more reasonable than what's on the books in many places. There's ways to legislate this while being reasonable.News flash
It's not parents choice to let or not let daughter date, it's a daughters decision.
