Parents can clearly be wrong if they think they can trust their children to always be truthful, but that doesn't make them negligent. 12 is old enough to give children some freedom and leeway to make their own decisions; if I was 12 and told my mom that I was going out biking with Michael and would be back before 4PM, I don't expect her to tail me and ensure I didn't leave the park at 3PM to blow Luke before I needed to go back home.
