ah yes, the age old battle of: how much is my time worth...
person a says: "why build your own, when you can have it built and sent to you in under a week"
person b says: "it is cheaper"
person a says: "but if it breaks, it aint my problem"
person b says: "it wont break"
person a and b say: "let's agree to disagree"
or so i wish it would go.

I wanna know wtf kind of 'uber game dork' buys a $5000 system for gaming.. I swear, it's gotta be only the rich parents of spoiled brats.
A lot of Alienware and other 'super gaming' rigs can be built for half the cost.
The only way they can stay in business is to sell computers to those who refuse to build their own. It'd be very easy to build a better computer for less money. However, if Johnny wants a super sweet gaming rig but doesn't know how to build one, then his parents are just going to have to buy it for him. These kids have to exist
To those who say that you can't build a better computer, by the laws of economics, there has to be a markup in order for alienware to make any money. In the end, it is always cheaper to do it yourself due to the extra expenses involved .

WTF is wrong w/ Alienware? Dell owns it. We don't like Dell. And we like doing things ourselves. The rest of the population would LOVE to have an Alienware even though they'll never push the computer that far.

The bolded statement is categorically false, as you completely fail to recognize that most large manufacturing firms have economies of scale and specialty pricing with parts distributors, however Alienware is NOT attempting to compete on price (that's Dell's game) instead they are competing on value added. To someone like me the value added is not worth the premium since I've been building computers since I was 12, but if you don't know how, then the value added may be equal to or greater than the additional cost incurred.

hey, let's not forget the cost of...
Windows XP pro.
MS Office Pro.
other software included.
basically, the price can become extremely similar.
