I know a lot of people that want that very badly, I know someone who just bought their laptops, him and his sister bought them, they didn't even have high end video cards in them.

yes voodoo and alienware do overprice their computer. OTOH, if you want conroe now, only Flacon Northwest and Velocity Micro offer systems. and frankly, even this $899 conroe based system outperforms most current computers with high end cpu's. stick in a better graphic card and you're set.

Too bad that computer isn't available yet! Their page says

"Order your new Velocity Micro Intel® Core? 2 Extreme or Intel® Core? 2 Duo processor-based system on July 27th ? Intel?s global launch day! " :)

Are Intel's price cuts July 27th too?
I thought it was effective on the 23rd

Where does alienware come up with the description that you have to order up to 30 individual parts? unless someones deciding to build each part from raw materials..

A lot of Alienware and other 'super gaming' rigs can be built for half the cost.

ok...do it....
Just as I thought you can`t!!

Also you do realize that Alienware tweaks the system above and beyond what most people could do!

thats the kind of thinking that keeps them in business.

Agree.. it's not justifiable at all.

It's not simply an equation of bang vs buck. Show me a car just as exotic and fast as a Ferrari that can be purchased at half price.

Yeah that is pretty sickening to an extent :)

OMG, why have I ever built computers before? It must be impossible! I must have gotten lucky all of these years.

OMFG, I'm not even going to read all the responses you probably got from others stating that you're pretty much a moron if you can actually justify Alienware's prices. If you really knew anything about computers, you'd know Alienware are overpricing Nazis and only the rich or incredibly uninformed would buy from them. I'm not surprised with your response seeing that you also defend Bose speakers and their prices as well  .

And Dell/Alienware aren't the only PC makers out there for those that don't want to build.

ibuypower or cyberpowerpc >>> Dell/Alienware

Not all people that love PC gaming are smart enough to build their own.

That, and Alienware's Warranty service is supposidly really good... I believe they overclock their systems by default, so factoring that in, could be worth it to people.

Burn your expensive stuff up and get it replaced with no worries...

Check out some pics of the inside of their cases if you can find them. Top notch clean cabling and such.

My friend bought Alienware a month or two ago... I tried (trust me, I tried) to convince him otherwise but eventually I just decided it wasn't worth me having to be his technician/warrantee/tech support just so I could get the satisfaction of building better for less. /shrug. The market is out there. FWIW he's also a CompSci major and works for Lockheed, so.. no shame in that.

Can you use phasechange for cooling you system? I mean in the description it says 'This extreme cooling system is designed for record breaking, it is not intended as a general purpose computer cooling system.' is this really true?
