Yes but before you didn't HAVE to stalk. Now you don't have a choice, its shoved down your throat.

You're an idiot. The News Feed doesn't tell you anything you already can't find out on your own. In other words, it's not at all intrusive.

Except now it's 100x easier. How would you know that I wrote on someone else's wall or something without checking everyone elses wall everyday? How would you know if I added another friend without checking my friend list everyday and comaring it to the day before? Now if someone's relationship status changes, you'll know immediatly when they change it etc..

If someone writes something on someone else's wall or comments on someone else's photo, then one would have to assume that it is ok of others with access to that wall or photo album to read it. You're complaining that there is a feature that makes it easier for other people to see what they are allowed to see anyways?

If you're worried that it makes it easier for people to stalk you, then I have to ask why do you accept stalkers as a "friend"?

Because people are stupid and childish on said social sites and accept anyone that attempts to befriend them, since they see having a large numbers of 'friends' as some sort of status symbol?

Then maybe this feature will wise everyone up and make them more mature.

All this is really going to do is make Facebook idiots friend a whole lot more people and post on a whole lot more walls so they can attention whore it up by filling in that News Feed thing.

Why did the Facebook founder take a good product and make it so much like MySpace? If I wanted a MySpace account I would get one! This whole corporate selling out sucks!

There's a differnce between information being publicly available and publicly announced. For example: You don't have your profile enabled. Why not? Is there some information that you would like to hide? If there is, it doesn't really matter because a simple google search of your username could probably bring up a lot of information about you. So why don't you have your profile enabled?

I think it's actually a decent idea, because it summarizes everything. However, I'm not a fan of it because it does seem a little stalkerish.

Or on the same token, police reports and calls for service are available to the public. Why doesn't your neighbor annouce to everyone on the block what has happened at his house when you all could just go to the PD and ask for the report. (Granted, some of it would be blacked out, but you would get the overall picture easily)

If you can find a way to find all the info about me with a program that alerts you whenever some new info about me on the internet is available to you, then more power to you. However, since my profile here is disabled, you'll have to find my info somewhere else.

This news feed feature would be like a feature for a forum that automatically alerts you to new posts from some user that you specified.

For example, if Fusetalk had a feature where I can enter a username like "blueshoe" and it then it alerts me via a link whenever you post something new, then that would be roughtly on par with this News Feed feature for Facebook.

I don't know if people noticed, but they apoligized for shoving this on everyone without giving a way to turn it off. Now you can go to your privacy settings and turn off your news feeds of yourself.

Try this out guys. I think it removes News Feed blurbs about you.

Does this remove my info from being seen by others? Because if it only removes the news feeds from being viewed by me....then it's pointless and stupid because I can click the X on the feed.

CHECK OUT FACEBOOK!

The creator just posted an open message and fixed a lot of the features. It's pretty nice now.

CHECK IT OUT!

An Open Letter from Mark Zuckerberg:

We really messed this one up. When we launched News Feed and Mini-Feed we were trying to provide you with a stream of information about your social world. Instead, we did a bad job of explaining what the new features were and an even worse job of giving you control of them. I'd like to try to correct those errors now.

When I made Facebook two years ago my goal was to help people understand what was going on in their world a little better. I wanted to create an environment where people could share whatever information they wanted, but also have control over whom they shared that information with. I think a lot of the success we've seen is because of these basic principles.

We made the site so that all of our members are a part of smaller networks like schools, companies or regions, so you can only see the profiles of people who are in your networks and your friends. We did this to make sure you could share information with the people you care about. This is the same reason we have built extensive privacy settings ? to give you even more control over who you share your information with.

Somehow we missed this point with News Feed and Mini-Feed and we didn't build in the proper privacy controls right away. This was a big mistake on our part, and I'm sorry for it. But apologizing isn't enough. I wanted to make sure we did something about it, and quickly. So we have been coding nonstop for two days to get you better privacy controls. This new privacy page will allow you to choose which types of stories go into your Mini-Feed and your friends' News Feeds, and it also lists the type of actions Facebook will never let any other person know about. If you have more comments, please send them over.

This may sound silly, but I want to thank all of you who have written in and created groups and protested. Even though I wish I hadn't made so many of you angry, I am glad we got to hear you. And I am also glad that News Feed highlighted all these groups so people could find them and share their opinions with each other as well.

About a week ago I created a group called Free Flow of Information on the Internet, because that's what I believe in ? helping people share information with the people they want to share it with. I'd encourage you to check it out to learn more about what guides those of us who make Facebook. Today (Friday, 9/8) at 4pm edt, I will be in that group with a bunch of people from Facebook, and we would love to discuss all of this with you. It would be great to see you there.

Thanks for taking the time to read this,

Mark

it isn't a hack into facebook's servers; it's only client-side. so yes, it is pointless, because it won't prevent your friends from seeing your activity.
