happens when im gaming sometimes, when it does happen it happens every 20 min or so. and then some days it never happens. im running newer drivers whatever is on nvidias site now, cleaned the old ones with driver sweaper before i installed these. still happens

cards (GTX 285) not over heating ive never seen it over 80C

Unusual, i havent seen those since drivers 169-17x, think theyre called TDR (timeout detection and recovery) errors. Newer drives solved the issue eventually. Try reinstalling the drivers but this time remove them without using driver sweeper.

I wouldnt use driver sweep at all, i read its not neccesary anymore and messes things up sometimes, just install over the old drivers or remove the old drivers via windows.

If that fails go back to the driver revision where this didnt happen.

I have only had that happen a couple times a few years ago in STALKER and it was because of my overclock.

Yeah, he comes asking for help and gets three suggestions for drivers. His pic shows 196.21, but he says he has the latest from nvidia's site (197.13). I point him towards no less than three newer versions, and he makes a comment about how difficult it is to read....

Seriously its not hard. You posts says that you made one change to your system and that was installing drivers. Now you have a problem that is basically the driver crashing constantly. The only thing we can come up with outside random speculation (like telling you your video card or psu is hosed even if we have 0 indication of this) is to do the obvious and try some different drivers to see if the problem persists.

Make sure you have the latest drivers. If you already do try reinstalling them. If that doesn't work, roll back to the last working drivers and wait for the next driver update.

Not all drivers work properly on all systems in all configurations. There are dozens of possible conflicts. Just find a driver that works. No big drama. ;)

He's obviously trolling for ATI as NV's drivers are perfect because they are made from sunshine and unicorn farts.

So this timeout error happens because the card stopped responding so the drivers reset it. Back before they had this timeout recovery the screen would just go black and the system would freeze. It's usually not the drivers that cause it these days so make sure it's not overheating, dusted out, has enough power, etc, and maybe look into RMA'ing it.
