wtf is so goddamn special about this aeron chair????

Many people like the mesh seat.

Many like that it's got a cool name, that they've heard of before, and for a well-built chair, I don't know that the pricing is all that bad. They are very high quality.

They're not comfortable to me; they only come in one size and it doesn't fit me (6'5", built like a refrigerator).

1. looks fancy
2. cool name
3. self-perpetuating marketing

i personally wouldnt pay for one, but thats me...

good chairs, alright. but hardly worth 50% of the cost. same reason pay a lot of $$ for anything. because they can, because they want to be different, and placebo.

Never heard a convincing argument as to why you should drop big bucks for one

Nothing. Horrible chairs that are way overpriced. Tear your clothes.

Yeah, the armrests reach out and grab your pockets...

I have one at work and love it.

They are available in three sizes.

EDIT: beaten

My employer bought these chairs. We have dozens and dozens on the floor. When I began using them, I enjoyed it so much that I bought two for the house.

i had that happen in an office i worked at last year. they gave me a check for 50 bucks to buy a new pair of pants without me even complaining. one thing i noticed that was different about that chair was your ass feels a breeze. kind of disconcerting, but not a deal breaker. i wouldnt pay for one.

I just realized I sat in these before at my school. Definitely more comfortable than your standard office chair, but if you asked me how much I would spend for one, I wouldn't say more than $150-$200. Yes, it's ergonomic and has a nice feel to it, so it might be worth the major cash (maybe) if you spend a lot of time sitting, but you couldn't convince me to spend that much on one. I try to avoid sitting for more than 3 - 4 hours a day (even then with a lot of breaks to stretch and walk).

Wee, not so wee, and FRICKIN 'UGE!

I used to have terrible back pain from sitting in my old chair. My Aeron made my back pain go away. My Aeron cost about as much as ONE chiropractor appointment per year until the warranty expires. And that's why it's worth it to me.

I may have been able to achieve the desired effect with some other chair, but I sat in a lot of cheap chairs and never found one that did what I needed it to do.

Haven't had a chair with arms for years - much easier to pull up to a desk or table. Pretty much 100% used while in front of a computer so my arms are on desktop anyway.

My favorite finally died recently - $50 five years ago at staples - psuedo leather but comfortable seat, worn/torn in several places, back drooping at 45 degree angle. Now $200 chairs aren't as comfy...

Had a $900 'scandanavian' exec chair 15 years ago - very comfy - fell apart after five years.
